Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

hi,I bought a fostex th 900 mk2. Now I would like to buy an aftermarket cable and balance it.perhaps an moon audio or an Italian cable, Portento Audio. I just can not find the headphone connector side. I believed that those of Sennheiser HD600 / 650 were perfect, and instead are a bit more short and tend to slip from the headset. you know the specific headphone connector side for fostex th900 mk2? thanks to those who can give me real answers.

I can't understand why fostex decided to make the detachable cable connector so huge on mk2.  It makes anything other than a Fostex cable look incredibly out of place (that isn't to say the Fostex cable isn't already out of place).

Contact Frank from Toxic Cables, he makes some of the best cables around and his cable deisgn is often copied (or at least tired to be copied).
He has large HD-650 connectors finished in beautiful chrome, I have them on my HD650 with Silver Widow.
Not cheap and long waiting time though (6-8 months).

Else if you want the best Wilver Widow fast ...
I am selling mine because it's a silver/copper/gold mixture and I feel the hD650 needs a pur silver cable like the Artisan I once had.
Not as beautiful and smaller connector but I guess I'll have to live with that.
Don't use pure silver on a TH-900 though, you'll regret it, highs will be much too sharp.

Specs of my cable:
4-wire 25,5 AWG copped/silver/gold Litz Silver Widow, 3,10m long.
Oyaide ¼ connector instead of the common used Neutrik. Don't know if you know Oyaide else Google to see what they have.
Not butt-ugly naked like he (and many others) normally does but sheathed in black silk.
Carbon with chrome splitter with his logo on.
Big chrome looking HD650 connectors with silver pins, the greatest looking HD650 connectors I have ever seen.

I took the most expensive version of Silver Widow he could to make. I had even more wishes that weren't technically possible.
So not selling for peanuts.

It is because of how these Fostex are functioning :D. They could not fit anything else than those bull connections for detachable cables. Otherwise it would even look worse :D

I can get a new pair of T1 gen 2s for about 657 Euros.. The TH900s cost about 1260 Euros... Are they so much better than the T1s?

I don't think the T1s gen 2s is a Fiat..

What do you think?

I personally prefer the T1G2s. Not totally a fair comparison open vs. closed as closed headphones have their limitations.

Yep.
A double blind test might reveal a different sound sig though, which would prove it's all between the ears.

Lol...I think it is very hard to take that MKII only has detachable cables. 900 can change so much with only foam discs and pads ! Who knows what else Fostex has in the MKII ? They confirmed the drivers are the same though. That is great !

Well I don't Fostex isn't going to adopt the beyer model of numerous same-generation silent revisions.

Good to see others who have modded their th900s with hd800 connectors. I've done the same and am now conflict as to what headphone to get next to complament my 900s. Hd800/s or Elear.

Nope, seems more like "loud" revisions with no important changes at all.

My top cans atm are the Pioneer SEM1s. If I'm going to recable them I am going to hardwire it.
The only reason for detachable cables I can see is if you either want to try out differetn cable on a regular basis or want to change bertween short and long cables frequently.
In all other cases adding another interruption in the chain defeats the purpose of using a better cable.

Tough choice. I really want to hear the Utopia and Elear myself. It's to oearly into the product release and I want to see what the general impressions will be oncd everything settled down.
