Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Haha, I consider the TH-900s endgame headphones for me (though some might say there's no such thing) so I'll be looking for an amp in the near future.

I also upgraded from HD 650 to TH900. Definitely endgame for me as far as headphones go.

Just subscribing to this thread. Not really new here but my account timed out several years ago when I moved on to speakers... Now I am back as my new audio room is under construction.

The TH900 is next on my list. I wonder how long it will take before the MK2 comes out. I am not very good at waiting lol.

What headphones & amps did you have before?

Old and sold long ago

Sennheiser HD650
Grado RS1
Grado Allesandro MS2i

Some woo audio amp when they first came out. And a headamp GS-1, some headroom amp too.

Last week I got a pair of Grado PS500e and a Burson Soloist SL (W4S Dac 2). I like the headphones and amp fine but they are not a good match. They both seem forward and makes cold system. I think I am going to buy the TH-900 for the Soloist (I like my bass) and maybe get something else for the Grado.

Did you miss the midrange of the HD650 after going to the Fostex?

Nope. 650's were definitely sweet sounding headphones, but IMO people are making the midrange dip of TH900's way bigger deal than it really is.

Wonder if the MK2 will have any sonic differences or is it just a regular TH900 with a balanced connector?

I love the midrange on the HD650 and miss it when I put on my TH900, if the mk2 proves to have better mids how good will it be

I'm thinking they are going to tighten things up in a few areas.

Firstly by the looks of it a more robust construction.  Secondly, perhaps tame that little bright monster that rears its ugly head now and then (this is not a common occurrence IMO)

The MK2 is going to be an even more refined, tweaked TH-900.

  Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the TH-900 thread (as far as I can remember). I've owned these for about for a while now, but I don't know why I've never subscribed to this thread.

I noticed a common theme on this thread about the treble being a bit sharp for some people. I found them to be a bit sharp as well when I first got them. My cheap & non-permanent solution was to use some tuning foam for the Sennheiser HD650 that I found on Amazon (and ebay as well).

http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Tuning-Earpads-Sennheiser-Headphone/dp/B00V35R18K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432836874&sr=8-2&keywords=headphone+tuning+foam

You have to trim them to shape, and install them under the inside lip of the cups, just like you would a Mr. Speakers doggy treat. I found that they help smooth out the treble significantly. I did a search if someone had already mentioned these, but I didn't find anything about it, so hopefully this isn't a double post.

Anyone tried this?
Any pictures of of where it is supposed to be installed?
