I decided to go ahead and tack on purple ribbons to my cans. It elevates the "plume" of the sound. That's right. You heard it correctly. I just coined a new pretentious audiophile descriptor.
Pics or it didn't happen! Bonus points for capturing the plume in the pics!!

Thanks for this. I listened to it not too long after your post and really enjoyed it but then got busy and fogot about it. Heard it again today and have had it cranked and on repeat. So good!

Any idea if this is a Lawton L1 Mod, or just that "anniversary tuning"?

I got a brilliant purple mk2 that came with Lawton pads. I'd say it's a Lawton Mod, but the white batting is still there, and there's that black rubber circle almost opposite to the PCB. 20240405_101904.jpg

the only thing i see, from memory that shows lawton, is the grey dampening material circles, is the same material in the cup, or is it fostex cotton stuff. If you have same grey padding it looks like dampening mod only

It's a square of white batting, so it looks like the stock stuff.

Interesting looks like no mod or just partial, it’s been years since I looked pre and post mod

That grey foam is definitely not "original tuning" stock - I am thinking perhaps "anniversary tuning" is in fact Fostex's own partial Lawton mod!

Looks like the Lawton mod, based on how the grey material looks and is cut.

Thought so, too - I wonder why the original batting is still there? Very happy with it either way!

The Lawton level 1 package just adds the gray dampening foam and does not require you to remove any dampening from the 900s. I found the tuning to be rather pleasant. It made the sound tighter and less diffuse. I did go back to the stock pads though for the elevated bass response, though. But I think it’s a nice package to tune them up!

Recently bought a used th900. Apart from the worn out headband, the foam dampeners had completely disintegrated. I'm getting no bass off these without the dampeners. Will changing the dampeners help. Or would it be an issue with the drivers.

Yes replacing the old damper will bring the TH900 back to life. Happened to my Denon D7000. You can get replacement here (out of stock at the moment)
