Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Ok I might get in trouble saying this. A upgrade cable can alter the sound. It can greatly improve or make your headphone sound worse. I rotate six TH900s , one has a 1,100 USD upgrade cable. All pretty much looks the same. All the headphones are in the same case ( I have six cases).
I took one TH900 out today , put on some recordings I heard two days ago on the same gear and there was a big sound difference, more depth , more details and more extension in the treble but less sharp as the stock.

I had both the copper/silver and the copper from moonaudio. They were ok but not ideal. One tamed the bass a bit and slightly rounded the treble , so sounded good on certain styles of music. The other made the th900 more bassy but lost details in the bass. Plus both cables were stiffer than stock.

It's your brain justifying spending nearly the same amount on a cable as you did for the headphone it's being attached to.

I'm happy in my world of blissful cable ignorance. I choose one with a colour I like and the length I need, and my criterion has been met.
Great. I bought over 12 , th900s , I am content with the stock cable , but Im also enjoying the th900 with the upgrade cable. It brings a more tuby sound.

Just rationally cannot ever imagine spending a(nywhere) near 1:1 ratio on a cable for a headphone. I mean, it's a cable lol. But still, I'm all for anyone doing anything that enhances their enjoyment of music, but glad I'm not discerning enough to have been sucked into the cable vortex.
Most cant imagine spending 200 USD for a headphone.

You could get mixed cable.

Try going back and forth a few times and see if that's still the case. No way your hearing was identical to how it was 2 days ago and no way you can remember exactly how it sounded.

Been doing that for 8 years. I once had 12 pairs of th900s and 8 had upgrade cables.
