I want to buy a fostex t50rp mkIII but I don't think my motherboard will handle it. Is the asus xonar d2x powerfull enough to power the t50rp? The only specs I could find of the D2x were 2V RMS and 118 db signal to noise ratio.

2 Vrms (40 mA at 50 ohm) is enough to power them but you wouldn't have much headroom either.

We can assume you already own the Asus Xonar D2X sound card?
The Xonar D2X can drive the 50-Ohm Fostex t50rp.
Also getting an external add-on headphone amplifier (connected to the D2X), might improve headphone audio quality.
