Firmware 3.0 released by fostex enable native DSD playback (DoP 1.0).

I tested it with audirvana plus on an imac : DSD64 direct mode by manually selecting DSD over PCM 1.0
Also tested on a ipad air with camera kit and the onkyo hf player app with dsf files converted from SACD ISO images.

With this upgrade I find the japanese version of HP-A8 a very competitive gear.

I get my with friend who back from Japan.

Also i use http://www.jauce.com/ to buy in Japan. It cost at all cheaper then local dealers.

Available on ebay for about 850 euros shipping to europe included,
200 more euros to pay custom taxes. About 1000 euros instead of 1600 in local store for EU residents.
I also see it on amazon.de for 900 euros (december 2013).

I just had to change voltage settings to 230V (require to open the case and move a connector - five minutes if you got a torx 9 tool).

I also managed to get through customs without paying tax on it. I was asked by the customs lady what was in the box, I said a headphone amplifier, she said a what with a puzzled look on her face. I proceeded to tell her what it does and she got a more confused look on her face and just let me through without actually asking me how much it cost.

yes,upgrade to last firmware immediately after receive HP-A8, all work fine, but i don't have dsd for testing and not use embedded flash reader.

I have just performed the v3.01 firmware update on my unit. Working fine, Just need to reconfigure all my settings again.

Another good feature that this DAC really needs is the ability to disable unused inputs on the input selector.

I'm using the USB and Optical 1 and I need to scroll at least 4 notches to the left or 5 notches to the right to switch between them.

I might try and fire them an email.
