I can't agree with you more. Watching Vettel drive from pole position to the chequered flag for three years has become so tedious it's lead me to sit there hoping for mechanical failures every time he gets in the car. He seems like a nice guy so it's nothing personal it just frustrates me when I sit down on a Sunday and watch him win race after race, often without being challenged after the first corner.

I really miss the old days.. I started to lurk around F1 back when schumi won every year and now it's Vettel.. How boring.
 
So now, to fight boredom I often watch some videos of the turbocharged era and, damn, that was something else...

I Think Vettel is a great pilot,but there is no denying Adrian Newey is too much of a genius!His Williams at beginning of the nineties where too nice to look and hear.

Customcoco,the video you posted is one of those you should keep in a capsule time.
In this link there are the best races of each one of my two favorite driver,Jaques Villeneuve and Ayrton Senna .

I have collected all races from 1978 to 1993 (If my memory doesn't fail) ,some are VHC ripped from my own recordings,some i found on the net.They are from many tv networks in all sort of languages,and their quality if far from Full HD,but if someone are looking for some missed races,just PM me and i will try to send you a link or try to make some sort of torrent.
After 1994 (and not because of Senna's death) formula 1 started to seem a lot boring,especially when Schumacher started to brake all records with a far superior team and car with no one to compete with.and that's from a heavy Ferrarista as i am.

I've contemplated starting an F1 thread here for a long while.. but I always watch tape delayed races and I like to be able to browse Head-fi on race days without accidentally seeing a spoiler - yes I'm paranoid and don't even like talking to my relatives on race days

Man I hope Ferrari and Macca don't flounder out of the gates this year. Can't stand another Red Bull domination -> it feels like 10 years ago. Glad to see Valencia gone too. Looks like we are back to the ring after all (okay not THE ring, but you know what I mean).

Definitely good to see the Nürburgring finally make it on the calendar for this season after the talks of it not making it in at all.
 
As for spoilers, I definitely agree with that. I shut myself off from all my regular internet stops in the morning to avoid the spoilers until I can get my hands on a recording of the races.

That's one of the reasons the Abu Dhabi GP was one of my favorite races. Vettel certainly showed he can race despite what his critics say and it was great seeing Kimi get his long overdue win.

I think the sport itself has changed because a lot of it has moved 'behind the scenes'.  So much is done by the team and the computers that the driver skill seems to be overshadowed.
 
A very good example I feel would be the transmission. Older cars were manual, had a longer shift time, and IMO that increased the competition. Take a look at Jim Clark or Jackie Stewart's race videos, you'll know what I'm talking about.
 
I feel that speed does not equal to a thrilling race.

Very glad Kimi is back, and did pretty good last year.  No idea why, but I love that guy.

F1 is the only car race I watch on TV. Never seen a live race. I'm a big Ferrari fan,  so in the last race last year when Vettel spun and got hit I thought he was out of the race. But he battled back and got enough points to win the championship again.

Donington 93 was a classic race! (though Turbos ended in the late 80's). Keep in mind that time period could be pretty boring too - it was just Adrian Newey's Williams, instead of his Red Bulls, leaving the field behind. It was only saved to some extent by some absolutely transcendent drives by Senna - the kind of drives we almost never see in the PlayStation era. Personally I think Newey should get a lifetime ban - for the good of the sport .

That's an awesome offer! I taped several seasons of F1 back in the nineties. I carted the VHS cassettes around for years, but finally in 2008 I could no longer justify schlepping them with every time we moved - not least because we haven't own a VCR in over a decade :rolleyes:.

Well, as far as I can see, the Melbourne track is high acceleration, not high speed, so it'll be an interesting test for the cars. 
 
Except Button that is. His smooth driving style suits the track well.

There is definitely an argument that the current drivers have it quite easy in comparison. I know they don't have traction control or anti-lock brakes but the levels of downforce created now are so high that that's not too much of an issue unless you are on old tyres.

Well, I'm not sure how easy it is for drivers, because the speeds nowadays are insane, but there's definitely less action to watch. Check out the old spa videos. The cars slide/oversteer on the corners which the driver skillfully controls with the throttle and steering. Also, the use of heel-toe techniques and such.
I guess I can say I don't see the car-driver interaction that much.
GT racing is still interesting in that respect.
