Campfire Bonneville + Cayin RU7

Dominique sounds good as always, the thick and rich sound of Bonneville is magical.

To start a new week I pulled out my favourites, the Focal Clear's. First time since December. I keep a list now. How anal is that? A true headphone nerd.

Its been way too long, since I last heard Hugo Kant, each time I put on his music I just get completely entangled in it. Great stuff :)

Trying the new Focal Elexes that arrived today, which means The Beatles again. Really loving this remix, and am thrilled they did something so powerful and yet subtle with Sgt. Pepper's. It would have been easy to ruin it or make something garish and new, but they chose not to.

If you haven't heard the 50th Anniversary remixes, they're all excellent. They used the original masters and recut from the original notes to make what sounds, at a casual listen... just like it used to.

Then you listen more closely and can hear every cymbal, every drumbeat, and every note of the bass guitar, details that got muddy in mixdowns on the four-track recorders of the day.

It's easy to listen to this and think, "This is really what they meant it to sound like, and the tech just wasn't there yet." And so, they've remastered it and brought it out in high clarity, with all the detail that was lost. It's a near-miracle, and a fantastic work.

I use it for first listens to new gear, of which I've had a lot lately. Luckily, I love the album and can listen to it forever.

Posted up waiting for my flight at LAX which, naturally, means it's time for some music. Right now, I'm running the Oriolus Szalayis off my A&K Kann Alpha. When you bring a bunch of extra cargo on commercial flights it's best to show up early because if you run into someone unfamiliar with the process you can be in for an ordeal that can easily end with you missing a flight. Occasionally, you come across someone who knows exactly what they're doing and you end up with a couple hours of lounge time on your hands. Props to British Airways for training Laurie and Kit at their LAX counter well, though. 👍

Up first in my pre-flight queue is the latest release from Lost World Band, A Moment of Peace. I stumbled across these guys on Bandcamp and I'm glad I did. They have a very unique sound going on, not only stylistically, but with that violinist gettin' in on the mix. The drummer does a solid job keeping the timing together on his downbeats while often backing the melody on tom-cymbal fills. It all adds up to some cool prog to explore with a pre-boarding Scotch or two. 😉🤘😎
