the last track of this album - a cover of "my way" is extraordinary. For any of you vocal/acoustic junkies (like me) a treat if you've not heard it before.

I can completely identify with these statements.I regret selling my Hagerman Tuba. Another nonsenical decision during spring cleaning
Compulsion in this hobby can be a double-edge sword/broom![]()
For me, the present inventory represents the 4th (or 5th or 6th . . .) major rebuilding following the 3rd (or 4th or 5th . . .) major purging.
My weakness has always been getting caught up in a "race to optimize" a system while missing out on much along the way; getting overly fixated on where things "should be" instead of genuinely appreciating where things are.
So many rapid-fire auditions and subsequent premature sales coming to term in the recurrent exhaustion of excess.
[sigh]
And of course these tendencies spill over into other and more profound departments of my life . . .
[Further discussion reserved for a bottle of good single malt scotch (or a bonded 100-proof bourbon) preceded by an informal oath of secrecy.]

Alice In Chains (1995) by Alice In Chains - I've been going through their catalogue tonight and am so far up to this, their third album and the last to feature the brilliant but tortured Layne Staley on vocals. It's something of a sad record, not so much in the music but that it was laid down as the band were coming apart at the seams due to Staley's heroin addiction. The opener, Grind, is a real barnstormer and my favourite track on the album. I picked the DT1990's for this playthrough for their detail and their bass impact and they deliver on both counts.

If released the year (1970) it was recorded instead of 1974 this LP would garner a lot of credit as one of earliest “fusion” recordings. Somewhat loose and improvised- it’s not that far from Bitches Brew by Miles. Has Corea, Carter, McLaughlin, Holland, DeJohnette, and Micheline Prell (really Pelzer) who was then a 19 year old prodigy that was in Open Sky and toured w/ Chet Baker. Warning - many of the players are not on their usual instruments. Best heard on vinyl or hi-res. There is an MP3, and a CD - but I’ve never heard either.

Jazz, smooth jazz, bordering on ambient? Anyway, great way to drink coffee on a Saturday morning

Been perusing sound demos of high end speaker setups on YouTube because every so often I find some phenomenal song I hadn't heard before in one of them, since when someone's showing off a $1M system you bet they know the right song to use - found this one like that. Lovely song, and can't believe I hadn't heard the singer before - listening to some other tracks of hers now and they're equally good.
Edit: And now:

Appetite For Destruction (1987) by Guns N' Roses - My god, is it really 36 years since this was released, that's a sobering thought, it's still the biggest selling debut album in the US (18 million) and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. I fancied something up tempo to listen to while I drink my coffee this bright and sunny morning and this album is certainly up tempo. I grabbed the Beyers again as I really enjoyed them on Friday night and they are perfect for this album, great guitar sound, punchy bass and Axel's manic howling all sound perfect to these ears.
