Snarky Puppy is always a fun listen. I'm never quite sure where they're going to take a given song next. I've posted this before, but their latest release, Empire Central, is a great live album and it's recorded very well. If you haven't already, you should check it out when you get a chance.

I would recommend that for anyone who's reading this actually. You don't really have to be a fan of any particular genre to dig what this band does. If you're a fan of good music and great musicianship then chances are they have something for you included in their sound.

Thanks for recommending, indeed very interesting music!

This evening I've got the DCA Expanse plugged into the Ferrum Oor/Hypsos stack with the Holo Audio May KTE pulling DAC duties being fed some bit-perfect goodness in the form of locally stored files on my laptop.

After @rids57 brought up Pattern-Seeking Animals earlier it started a musical itch that I haven't had the chance to scratch until now. On deck is P-SA's 2020 effort, Prehensile Tales. As rids and I mentioned earlier, these guys take all the highly technical musical prowess you expect from an elite prog outfit and make it catchy and approachable in a way and to a degree I rarely find in other great neo-prog bands.

Their lyrics are quite singable and catchy enough to get stuck in your head. This band is also very good about matching the rhythm and time changes that are a staple if neo-prog with musical and lyrical thematic shifts so that it doesn't break up the continuity of their songs as much. I think that's one of the primary reasons why their music comes off as a bit snappier, catchier, and more accessible without being dumbed down. I coukd be wrong, but that's what I'm hearing. Regardless, I highly recommend any of Pattern-Seeking Animals' works and this one is a doozy.

To those about to rock, I salute you! 🤘😎

I need to get one of those laptops with the rotating screen like you have when I update mine. One of my listening stations is setup in a way that would make that a crazy useful feature! Which model is yours and how do you like it? Anyways, that looks like a comfy spot and I dig the soft lamp lighting. It reall sets the mood nicely!

Thanks, HP Elite Book 2760p. It's a little older but has plenty of neat features. It gets the job done for my needs. An I5 processor, touchscreen w/stylus and DHD. $150 used is not bad at all.

@Davidzak64 Ever since you have first posted here, I have always found that mannequin (womannequin?) head pretty creepy lol.

Anyways, here's what I am up tonight since I can't sleep:

New iems in today's mail

BGVP scale pro, these were $22. Amazing sound quality, they are V shaped but bass is tight and well defined. High end is crisp but not sibilant.
Chi fi new offerings continue to impress. So many great sets out now around $25

Listening on ibasso DX170

Listen to the release Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado, Vol. 2 (Live) by Bob Weir on Qobuz https://open.qobuz.com/album/fb4oonybsvxla2022_11_03_00.35.48.jpg

Well, not everyone can be a Jada fan, she's has more of a Cult following for only the most sophisticated music lovers. :L3000:

When you're ready to have another session with one of P-SA's albums, do yourself a favor and listen on your K340s. I haven't heard the Elex so I'm not criticizing that choice. I only bring it up because one of the test albums I listened to initially on the K340s when I first got them was their album from earlier this year entitled Only Passing Through in hi-res and it was a killer experience that really got me excited about what the K340s can do.

And $150 used for a good functional laptop that can handle music playing and web duties AND has the cool rotating screen sounds like a sick deal to me. I would still be using my ancient HP if my girl hadn't held a full on intervention and forced me to upgrade to my current Lenovo Thinkpad (E15 I think lol. Get it? I *think*). I have to admit, this one is significantly faster and smoother when I'm editing music on it, but the VAST majority of use my laptop sees is as the music source for my listening stations lol! 😂

Spotify > BTR7 bluetooth aptX > Senn 600

I always knew these guys existed but I knew nothing about them. Apparently I missed out on some great stuff. I was dinking around in Halloween playlists and heard "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" and investigated further. They reminded me musically of Hoodoo Gurus so I was hooked.

You know the K340 are my go to Hp's.
They will definitely be getting some P-SA time. I did enjoy the first album a lot and I'm looking forward to listening to the next two.

FYI, If the 650 and K340 had a baby, it would be called Elex. 😁
It has a similar FR to the 650 with the speed, soundstage and imaging (almost) of the K340. I've grown very fond of them. I do decrease the 25 to 40 Hz frequency range a tad or they will kick my ass with sub bass punch fatigue. 🎧🎼😜
