For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

The MG are awesome. It is in my opinion better headphone that sounds amazing. It has more accurate and punchy bass than the HD650.

But the HD650 is my 'long listening session' headphone. My ears can just dig it for hours on end. Not so much the MG. They are indeed more precise, a bit more energy in the upper mid/treble.
I should qualify by saying I think I may have damaged my hearing slightly by listening to Grado headphones too loudly in my early days in the hobby. I noticed I lost sensitivity in the upper mids/low treble, so I laid off the headphones for a few weeks and it did come back, but with a degree of extra sensitivity in that frequency range, where the ear is already the most sensitive.

So I have to qualify my opinion a bit.
Also interesting - that upper midrange emphasis you mention is the reason I was steered away from the OG Clears and TO the Mg.

And, I love my Grados, but they can exacerbate any sensitivity in that area. I use Dekoni velour pads on mine to somewhat ameliorate that ‘issue’, yet a long Grado session can still leave my ears ringing in a way the Sennheisers never do.

JRiver Media Center (PC) > SMSL SU9 > SMSL SH9 > Beyerdynamic DT1990 pro

Dividing Lines by Threshold - Another new release from yesterday, these are a neo-prog-rock/metal band from the UK that have been going since 1988. Glynn Morgan takes over on vocal duties from Damian Wilson, who has moved over to Arena. Standout track for me is The Domino Effect, an 11-minute epic. Still wearing the Beyers as they make my ears so happy and are unaffected by my glasses.

I just listened to this about an hour ago as I had been waiting for it ever since a friend of mine mentioned Threshold was dropping a new album. And, man, was it ever worth the wait! I thought it was a fantastic album.

This morning I'm fabricating a custom mount to hold an accent cymbal array and, of course, I'm listening while I do. Right now I have my ThieAudio Excaliburs plugged into my own DIY ES9038 DAC/amp combo that turned out very well. I have the Bluetooth 5.1 module installed and up and running so I'm currently streaming music off my phone from Qobuz over BT.

Today, inspired by @Davidzak64 , I have decided to include some Atomic Rooster in my queue. First up is their 1973 effort, Nice 'n' Greasy. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning! Pre-tour excitement in the air, metalworking in my shop, making accessories for a brand new drum set (that came out F'in perfect, BTW), and listening to some early-70s AR. Life is good!

To those about to rock, I salute you!

Continuing to mine the rich (and new to me) Snarky Puppy vein, I’ve jumped over to guitarist Mark Lettieri’s solo work, this album apparently on baritone guitar, an instrument about which I still haven’t made up my mind - for or against. This record makes a strong and funky case in favor.

Fun Fact: This cover reminds me of the ‘avanc’ from The Scar.

I’ve also switched back to the modified HD650.

I love the Grado tune... too much lol. When I first switched from my Grado RS1, I went to the HD650, and coming directly from the Grado to the Sennheiser, the Senn. just sounded dull. My ear had to acclimate. But over time it did, and I no longer hear the HD650 as being 'dark' like so many describe. It is easy-going for sure. But dark nowadays implies 'lifeless' to me. HD650 has plenty of life and detail. Its well balanced.

When I really want to hear things a bit more 'hot' I will slip on my Hifiman HE-560. I know there are people who aren't fans of that particular set of cans, but it also goes on my list of 'all-time' headphones that have stood the test of time. From a sound perspective, anyway.

I’m going back and forth between the D-8000 and HD 800. I love the difference.
I love both headphones in general. God I’ve had my HD 800 for nearly 12 years now.

Lots of Bach this morning.

The album art for the oboe concertos is lousy but the playing is beautiful

I queued up 10 of the Secular cantata albums to follow

Qobuz has all 10 cds of the Bach Secular Cantatas by the Bach Collegium Japan on the BIS label in a single link. 12 hours of playing time

I purchased these as digital downloads in hi res flac format from eclassical several years ago, before subscribing to Qobuz

The streaming quality on Qobuz is indistinguishable from my downloaded flac files.

Beethoven 7th symphony is not As famous as many others but it is equally amazing. Among my favorites
Here in an amazing version by the Berliner Philarmoniker and Kirill Petrenko. The quality of this recording gives me goosebumps.

Apple Music High Res 24-96-Astell & Kern SR25- Topping L30II - Denon AH-D7200
