A quick question that is not so easy to answer. I own 580/600/650 (not 6xx, but I assume based on all reports they are the same - ditto for my 600, which are the OG marbleized version). Yesterday, I would have sworn that the 580 was the best of the bunch, but that’s just because I was listening to it through my now ancient HA-160DS, which seems to make everything sound great. Overall, I agree with @jonathan c , I would probably pick the 600 as the most neutral if I could only have just one, but there are times when I crave the warmth of the 650 and other times when I prefer the brash liveliness of the 580. All of mine have some modification (Dekoni pads, rear foam removed and replaced with CC inserts, 650 grilles and wires on the 580s, CC weight mod to help bring out more bass on the 600, …). There is certainly a strong family resemblance, and they all require a top shelf amp with a stiff power supply (some swear by tubes, others, like myself, enjoy the sound of class A solid state - either way, a stable power supply is the key). I like them all and I’m glad that I am lucky enough to have all three (I bought my 580s new in/about 1995, when they were “it”, and they’ve been in constant use since). A few ear and head pad changes is the only maintenance ever needed. These things are built to last - plastic or not. Can’t go wrong, just a matter of what’s your favorite flavor?Quick question: Which do you prefer, the HD600 or HD6XX?
Thanks! Order placed. Much appreciated. You do not have to send your HD650 to Custom Cans. Go to:

To do the mod takes all of twenty minutes and is reversible.
