For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

switching it up to my LCD-X this evening for a little bit. I really wanted to try them on my newly acquired Fiio K11 r2r that I picked up for IEMs and more sensitive headphones. The V281 with +6db gain for the Tungsten introduced a lot of noise for some of my headphones and the amp is basically unusable with IEMs. There is really great synergy so far with the K11 r2r and LCD-X. I typically find the LCD-X can be a little spicy on some amps with no EQ, but the K11 r2r is providing a really smooth sound to them.

Listening to Kadavar from Germany. A stoner rock band that very obviously is heavily influenced by Sabbath and Zeppelin. Excellent riffs!

Fiio K11 R2R -> UM MEST MKII

Some garage punk from Japan:

This was fun. I had to give the full album a listen.

Straight-up punk rock. The kind of music that just makes you want to get up and... clap? stomp your feet? Whatever. It's all on beat, so it's the opposite of funky. But whatever, this stuff is fun as hell.

Kadavar are always a good choice. Excellent rec! 👌

Topical Stuff:

It's late and I'm beat so I'm gonna leave the unpacking of my desktop gear for the morning. I'm going with some flathead-style earbuds for the time being. I'm starting with a pair of my own creation using 120ohm LCP drivers in a modified MX500 shell that has an MMCX jack and a vent lay out made specifically to tune this driver. The overall sound of these is a little more smooth and warm than the 130ohm Beryllium DIY buds I've posted about before. The bass is punchy, articulate, and elevated quite a bit above neutral and it reaches surprisingly deep. The mids favor the lower half of the range, though only just enough to impart an extra bit of musicality and warmth while still remaining clear throughout. The highs are clear, but intentionally reserved to keep everything smooth, just a touch dark, and totally unfatiguing. These are my go-to buds when I've had a long day of listening or I've been monitoring a show with IEMs and I want something that's still dynamic and technically capable, but also pleasing and gentle on tired ears. They're running off of my A&K Kann Alpha because it was within reach when I collapsed on my bed after stumbling out of the shower. 😂

Up first in my wee hours queue are Bering Sea with their eponymous 2024 debut LP. These fellas are a Seattle-based instrumental rock trio whose sound incorporates elements of prog-metal, post-metal, and the occasional post-hardcore lick or two. I only stumbled upon this album a few days ago and my first attempt to check it out was cut short after a few tracks that showed great promise. I feel like the instrumental post-*insert rock genre here* genres tend to lend themselves well to sessions where I'm wanting to sit in the dark and let my mind explore the music while the music regenerates and heals my exhausted psyche, if that makes sense. So basically, I'm thinking this ought to be the perfect night to give this album a re-run. Here's to hoping it's as good as that first attempt made me believe it could be. 🤞🤘😎

Love (2025) by The Flower Kings - New album dropped last night and being a big Flower Kings fan I had to have a listen before bed. It's a 24/96 release and sounds very clear and crisp so no complaints on the sonics. The music itself is classic Flower Kings, they've been around more than long enough to have a signature sound and this is it, Flower Kings flavoured prog. I haven't heard enough to pick out any favourite tracks but they've all sounded very good so far and I'll be listening more tonight. :darthsmile:
