it was recommended by @Mark Wollschlager in the Prog Rock thread - I'm very grateful too as I love both of the albums on Qobuz
Yeah, I went ahead a purchased both. Fantastic albums! Thanks for the reminder and thanks to @Mark Wollschlager. With a last name like Wollschlager I feel like your missing a marketing opportunity for some kind of alcoholic beverage. Food for thought...

Still on the Burson Soloist 3XGT with the Schiit Yggdrasil MIB, but I decided I it was time to see how it does with some notoriously difficult headphones so I broke out the Hifiman HE-6 Six Screws. So far I have been nothing but impressed with the Soloist. I like it a lot more than the GS-X Mini it's replacing in this listening station and I'm really enjoying having that Burson sound back in the house after the departure of my Timekeeper 3i.
Atop this evening's queue is Icarus The Owl's 2017 effort, Rearm Circuits. For a guy like me that lived through the heyday of the early 2000s emo revival and has been massive fan of prog and associated genres like math rock since I was knee high to a grasshopper, ITO's prog/math rock infused emo sounds really hits the spot sometimes. Now if they'd just pull a My Chemical Romance move and produce a whole rock opera album...

Couldn’t resist giving this greatest hits album a listen. Wasn’t disappointed at all, the songs are sorted and flow together very well. I especially like the full length versions of LA Woman, The End, Riders on the Storm. Great ear candy!

I'm gonna have to check this one out so thanks for the rec. My band actually covers Riders On Ther Storm and Whiskey Bar fairly often during our shows. The Doors have always been big for me and one of the very first musical experiences I can remember is sitting on the couch with my dad when I was maybe 4 or 5 years old listening to The Doors and being absolutely mesmerized.

My girl just showed up a few minutes ago with her sister and her mom so I had to switch to some closed backs...

As for music, I'm listening to Protest The Hero's 2022 instrumental version of their album Palimpsest. As some of you have probably noticed, I've been listening almost exclusively to instrumental albums lately. I have a side project to my main band that is totally instrumental and we're going to be doing some studio work while I'm home during my break from touring so I have been listening as research for some production methods/techniques to employ while recording. I have listened to plenty of Protest before, but I had no idea that they had released an instrumental version of this album until a fellow musician mentioned it while discussing said production techniques. The original version is good, but the mixing and mastering done on the instrumental release is really very good, IMO.

Is it too much to ask for a pic of the cabinet your gear is on without the stuff in front of it? The detailing on the edge of the top that's visible looks so cool and I'd love to see the rest.

You should give this album a listen if you’re into instrumental prog metal with some post-rock influences.

Now that you say that, I feel like Iay have asked you before. If so, I apologize, but the woodwork on it makes it such an appealing piece. I love unique wood furniture so cool examples tend to catch my eye. At least now we know you have solid taste outside of audio...

Moved on to the Audeze LCD-4s through the Ferrum Oor/Hypsos stack with the Holo Audio May KTE pulling DAC duty. This will be the first time I run the LCD-4s off this signal chain and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the Ferrum stack does with them. The LCD-4s have a low end that can lose some of it's bombastic power and articulation with an amp that doesn't offer adequate control of the driver and because of this I've found them to be surprisingly amp picky. That said, the Ferrum normally kills in this aspect so I'm really anticipating some great synergy.
For the occasion I'm going to listen to what should be a fun album that's totally different from my other listening material lately: Popular Monster by Falling In Reverse. This album literally dropped at midnight and I can't wait to hear what Ronnie put together. He's a friend of mine that I met when I was hired to drum for a band that was touring with Escape The Fate (his previous project). He and I share some similar troubles from our past and we bonded a bit over that. His music is often sarcastically funny and his persona is definitely an over the top caricature of himself in real life. His tracks often make me laugh, but they also show how seriously talented he is as a lyricist. He's one of the most dynamic life performers I've seen in recent years. If you're a fan of post-hardcore with obvious rap/hip-hop influences and biting wit, give Falling In Reverse a listen. Here goes nothing...

Sounds right up my alley! I'll have to check this one out tonight. Thanks for the rec, bro!
