For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

[My favorite of Maazel's renditions of Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony. Although the CBS recording is not as technically endowed as TelDec's or Deutsche Grammophon's, for example, this one remains my reference.]

Kickin' back and listening to some jazz this morning. I've got the Hifiman Edition XS running off my Schiit Lyr w/ 1970s Amperex ECC88s and the Modi Multibit 2 decoding all the bits and pieces over optical from my Wiim Mini and Qobuz.

At the top of this morning 's queue is a 2021 release from Sex Magick Wizards entitled Your Bliss My Joy. These guys are one of my favorite jazz outfits out there today. They incorporate a lot of different stylistic elements from many genres and blend them into a contemporary and often experimental jazz palette that somehow manages to sound totally cohesive. My ears and mind are never left wanting for sonic elements to appreciate and explore when SMW makes an appearance in my queue. If you like listening to jazz, demonstrations of high levels of musicianship, or just appreciate good, unique music, then I can't recommend checking this album and this band out highly enough. 🤘😎

Unexpectedly, I’m spending the evening with my AKG K361’s. Ordinarily I only use these little headphones on flights or walking commutes, but I just picked up a pair of new pads (Dekoni Choice Suede) thinking it’d make them a bit more comfortable, not expecting the pads to improve sound quality much. Wow, have I been shocked and impressed. These sound like totally new headphones. Much punchier, more dynamic, with articulate and full bass. Not at all the thin (but accurate) headphones they were. I suppose the new pads ($40) put them closer to the price tier they now compete with, but still, I did not expect this.

Telepathic Minds (2023) by Overhead - Latest (double) album from Finnish proggers Overhead. Formed in Helsinki in 1999, where they were heavily influenced by Pink Floyd, Genesis and King Crimson but over the following twenty four years developed their own sound, which can range far heavier than that of the previously mentioned three . There's even an occasional smattering of guttural vocals, something I can't normally abide but they seem to just be used for the occasional effect and it doesn't bother me. One thing they do all have in common is excellent musicianship. On day 8 of my Covid journey and still feel like crap, so I'm still using my trusty D7200's.

The ongoing blizzard only gets more fascinating looking into, when listening to this album. Luckily from the comfort of my listening chair 😁

Because I was already getting some new Dekoni pads for my much cheaper AKG K361, I thought I’d also pick up a set of the much-lauded Dekoni Stellia pads for my Focal Elegia. Really smoothed them out nicely. Not as transformative an upgrade as the pads were for the little AKG’s, but a nice bump in quality regardless.

Roon > Mojo 2 > Singxer SA-1 > Focal Elegia

I also just can’t get enough of André 3000’s incredible new flute (!!) album.
