If I'm watching a movie with someone I like to be able to talk to them and comment the movie, so I wouldn't get closed phones for that. That's my $0.02.

SR60 for head-banging rock music (but not very isolated), K81 DJ for bassy music (better isolation), PX100 for good average portable (not very isolated)

You could try the SR60's with bowls & Kramers BASSHEAD mod

I've listened to.....uh, and WATCHED movies too....with my MS-1s and they do a great job right out of the receiver or DVD player and don't even need an amp!

EDIT: Not exactly true. I didn't watch the movie with the phones, I used a display device for that part.

I really like the PX100's sound better than the KSC75 and they're more confortable, but KSC75's are less than half the price.

Wow, for once someone posted a list of cans with which I am all familiar.

Of that list, I'd say the DT-231 are the best all-around (closed but not too much). The PX-100 are the best portables (open). The SR-60 (or the 80 can be had for less than $100) for rock. The K81 if you want some isolation.

Frankly, I wish I had one of each on the road sometimes!

KSC-75, get it and get out of here.

KSC75, I think they sound much better than PX100 (IMHO: clearer midrange and no infamous Sennheiser veil) and they are cheaper. Buy them and never look back... although if you'd like better SQ the MS-1 is a clear step up from them and I'd recommend them too. The KSC75s are plenty good enough for movies and totally unbeatable value for music.
