GEC A2293 or GEC CV4079 in an adapter is a good alternative to 6AS7G and 6080. They are single triodes while 6080/6AS7G are double triodes and this is why you use them in pairs.

Which 6080/6AS7 is better depends on a lot of factors (e.g., headphones, amp, dac, other tubes in the system, let alone personal preferences). Higher quality 6080 style tubes are GEC, Mullard, Bendix (slotted and non-slotted), Tung-Sol/Chatham, Raytheon. Good 6AS7G are GEC and Chatham. In many systems, 5998/2399/421a or 7236 tubes can be used instead of 6080/6AS7 and give superior sound. But like I said, depends on many factors. My recommendation is to spend time with the Tung-Sol/Chatham 6080s that you have. I really like those tubes in my WA2 (less detail than a 5998, but can be more engaging with rock-style, heavier bass music). What 6080 / 6AS7 will be better ? I know than could be Bendix, other ?
Hi ... i can buy those Raytheon, but i dont think than are better than my actually Tung Sol or Chathan 6080 (like organic sound)... or I m wrong ?Which 6080/6AS7 is better depends on a lot of factors (e.g., headphones, amp, dac, other tubes in the system, let alone personal preferences). I was a big fan of the Soviet Winged-C 6H13C/6N13S in the Darkvoice - and I am also a fan of it in my new amp.. I think this tube in underrated, but again, like many people have said there are many factors, the biggest being person preference/opinionHi ... i can buy those Raytheon, but i dont think than are better than my actually Tung Sol or Chathan 6080... or I m wrong ?
Thanks

The thing about tubes is they can sound different in one amp to another, and when you add in your personal preferences and the rest of your chain, not to mention the other tubes you are using in your amp, it's a bit tricky to say "which is best" .Hi ... i can buy those Raytheon, but i dont think than are better than my actually Tung Sol or Chathan 6080... or I m wrong ?

That being said, I feel that most folks almost universally enjoy the Tung Sol 5998s.

Some "nicer" 6080s that haven't been mentioned:
Thompson (French)
NEC (Japanese)
Generally the most expensive looking tubes end up sounding best to me. If you look at photos of different 6080s you'll notice some look like they were built with sturdier more expensive parts and engineering. The Thompson and NEC 6080 are like that. The Tung-Sol 6080 and 7236 are good examples too. The condition of the individual tubes matters too and so it's best to look for ones that tested high and are closely matched.
The 5998 does reproduce fine details really well. It's great for listening to vocals but depending on what you're listening to you might prefer a different tube. A 7236 or even a 6080 could get you better bass for example. When I first got into tube rolling I spent $150 on a Tung Sol 5998 but I barely even use it anymore.
The 5998 can be microphonic (picks up vibrations you can hear) so if you live in a place where big trucks drive by and shake your house that could be an annoyance.
The Tung Sol and Chatham 6080s you have look nice. Notice those rectangular metal pieces that go between the innards and the glass housing to reduce vibrations. They also have 3 layers of mica inside instead of 2. I'm pretty sure the top layer is there to prevent material from the getters from getting onto the other parts of the tube. Some will have little boxes over the tops of the coils instead. Those are probably better than average.
I'm curious what some of the veterans think about this.

I'm listening to this now, on SACD via a Copenhagen Philips 12AU7 with long welded plates and a quad of A2293 and it is absolutely beautiful.

It sounds like you are searching for an answer that you need to ultimately find out for yourself.Hi ... i can buy those Raytheon, but i dont think than are better than my actually Tung Sol or Chathan 6080 (like organic sound)... or I m wrong ?

Do your research, read through these threads for others opinions of different tubes and if you can afford it, try some out for yourself.
you can always sell the ones you do not like to try others out.
Like you, many of us started out on the DV and sometimes it is the combination of a 6AS7G and it’s siblings with a certain 6SN7 (and variants) that speaks to you, and that will be the best…for you.

Only you can determine if they're better. Think of it like an educated gamble. In general, people seem to hold the TS/Chatham 6080 in higher regard than the Raytheon 6080. So in that respect, you might be right.Hi ... i can buy those Raytheon, but i dont think than are better than my actually Tung Sol or Chathan 6080 (like organic sound)... or I m wrong ?

That tube, along with the Tung-Sol 5998 are 2 of my favorite tubes in the DV and BHC.Hi,

Here is a cool effect of one of my Mullard 6080’s in action, which is an initial warm-up flash that you can get with some European 6080 tubes.
