Focal For Bentley Radiance Headphones

I recently make a review about them telling the same.

From my k9pro, via 4.4 balanced requires more volume to get the same db than the sony z1r.

They are not "easy" to drive
They are rated at 101dB SPL into 35Ohm, so they are pretty easy to drive, at least in the sense of how much power you need to get them loud. The Z1R is rated at 100dB into 64Ohm.

As far as I know, the K9 Pro delivers pretty linearly, so it delivers more power into 32Ohm than it does on 70Ohm.

I have the Celestee, which is pretty similar, and on my fiio K3 I can barely turn the volume knob over half before they get too loud (even on the 3.5mm out). The K3 is rated at 120mW(32Ω).

In theory, the Radiance should sound louder than the Z1R given the same amount of power.

Same cable, same equipment.

At the same volume, the sony give you more db.

I'd say they are considered "easy to drive" headphones. Compared to other dynamic headphones that I have/had with higher sensitivity (Radiance, Clear OG, D9200, 109 Pro) lately, I'd say the Radiance is about average in terms of drivability. They get louder than the Clear's, but the 109 pro and D9200 are about 5-10dB louder on my Burson C3R. They can still be driven off my phone (Xperia) to about 85-90% of my volume limit. I have the IE600 as well and they get a bit (2-3dB) louder, but that is to expected with a IEM with tiny drivers.

right thanks very much, just having a scroll and have seen some of the options in aliexpress. by the way is the 3.5mm called integration? the one i wanted said integration 3.5mm x2.

I believe it means that the 2 connectors that connect with the headphones are 3.5mm ports which is ideal for the Focal Radiance.
Do you have a picture of the cable?

Hi everyone, my focal radiance just arrived today, and I have one question, I have heard that this is pretty easy to drive but however thats not the case with my pair. Its has gotten me 85% volume on high gain on my shanling m6 ultra. Harder to drive than my senheiser ie600 iem, 64 audio u12t and lastly my sennheiser hd800s. On my hd800s i am on 40% medium gain but this radiance gets to high gain 60-85% volume to be enjoyable. Any ideas would be very helpful
It requires allot of power for the you to feel the Base. Ifi Diablo via 4.4 connection.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm getting a bit annoyed by how rigid the stock cable is. Though, the stock cable also matches pretty well thanks to the accent.

Hello,

I am currently looking for a good pair of headphones for Rap songs (Travis Scott, Drake etc.) and hesitating a lot. I don't really know what i should buy.

In my list I have these two :
- iBasso SR3 (600 EUROS)
- Focal Radiance (670 EUROS)
- Aeon Closed X (430 EUROS)

In term of bass punch whil maintening a good clarity which one would be better ?

I’ve already tested two headphones : Meze 99 and Focal Celestee.
The Meze 99 was too warm, it was like if everything was muddy with too much in the bass so I really didn’t like them.
For the Focal Celestee it was interesting, they sounded really clear, but there was just not enough bass impact/punch for me.

If you have some recommendations don’t hesitate to reply, i would like to not spend more than 700 EUROS on the headphone, ideally 600 EUROS.

In case you ask, for the DAC/AMP i can buy an iFi Zen Dac v2 or SMSL C200.

Thanks a lot in advance

Out of the three that you mentioned the Radiance has the best bass dynamics, slam and texture. The Aeon Closed X is very dynamically blunted. The bass texture is there but it completely lacks punch which in my opinion is required for Hip-Hop. I use my Radiance almost exclusively for Hip-Hop but I stack it with an original iFi Hip Dac which adds about +6db of sub bass boost.

Like all Focal’s their unit variance is pretty high, especially with their pads so your mileage may vary but my Radiance unit needs a bit of a sub bass boost. Mid bass is incredible with just enough sparkle for lyrics to shine.

If I could add one more suggestion to your list I’d maybe look at a second hand Sony MDR-Z1R as an alternative.

Personally I enjoy the Radiance more but the Z1R sounds incredible for Hip-Hop as well.
