Focal Elegia - what do you think?

Any 4.4mm cable recommendations?

All Focal headphones except Utopia use the same connectors. So Elegia, Stellia, Clear and Elear cables are all compatible.

I got this one from Amazon, the sound is good enough though the cable itself has microphonics. The material of the black sleeve feels like plastic so it isn't the softest, most flexible thing in the world. I've ordered a custom cable from eBay (skyaudio cables) but haven't received it yet.

The Elegia is $449 shipped from Adorama. Have to go through Slickdeals to see the discounted price. No tax outside NY I believe.

Even though they may be unauthorized, you're still buying a brand new pair with at least a 30 day return window. Also if there is anything wrong with the headphones you would know within the first day. I've never had a headphone that developed issues later in its life.

This is still a better deal than buying a used pair that was previously purchased from an authorized dealer. A used pair comes with no warranty, and, well, is used.

Crazy deals you have there in US. I ordered a pair from a French retail store for 630€, but had to ship them via Belgium, because the store doesn’t ship directly to my country.

This is where I got mine from in mid summer. No issues whatsoever and I believe they're authentic.

They sell authentic stuff. They're my main camera gear purchase store. I've been shopping with them for years. No issues ever.

They sell authentic stuff but I can assure you that's not an authorized sale from Focal.

I noted that in my post. I know it's not but they sell authentic and genuine stuff. And Adorama themselves are reliable. So it's a safe bet. I've never had any issues with my past purchases with them

so what happens when Focal shuts down their access to gray market cans? How will they take care of any service if issues arise?

Hi Jason, I support your business. I've purchased headphones from you in the past. Alan is great to work with.

Also l'm still hurting missing out last year's Clear sale you had. I really should have gone for it but I had just purchased the HD800S from you :) If it ever comes back PM me I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Back to topic: If Focal shuts them down then that's it for any of these sort of deals. And their sales. This also seems to be a one off sale for them. They also don't mention anything about being gray market on the product page. So it's 30 days return and then hope nothing happens after that. Adorama is not stating any after sales support past 30 days. This is all on the buyer. Take the chance and save $250-$280 vs the next official lowest price or spend more and get 1 year support.

Also does Focal cover shipping to and from customer or not when making a warranty claim? That's also a factor. If customer has to pay for shipping then this is a better deal in my opinion. You can buy 2 of these for nearly the price of headphone + tax + customer pays for shipping and insurance for warranty purposes.

The other big audio sale they did were on Polk LSiM series of speakers bundles.

This is the 4th time this year they've ran an unauthorized sale on the Elegia on Slickdeals. They also ran 2 for the Clear. So it's definitely not a one off for them. Other brands have dropped them for their slickdeals sales.

Warranty generally goes through the authorized dealer, not direct through Focal. So it would be up to whatever dealer it was purchased through to provide a shipping label or not. Most will if it's a warranty issue within the first 30 days.

thanks for your business! They’ve been selling grey market products for over a year. I’m not sure how any insurance can support a warranty claim when they can’t purchase original equipment parts so even that seems a little suspect to me. I do understand the idea of getting the best price possible but in the case of products purchased grey market, the risk seems to high for my preferences. I don’t fault anyone for making the grey market purchase but they (the online dealer) knows without question that they are doing something that is totally not kosher and could cause consumers some significant inconvenience. I am aware of what Focal is about to do with them and it doesn’t look pretty for the seller
