Hahaha what did you do? You bought an Elear or Utopia from The Source AV? :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, went for the Utopia.

I would love to if I was in the States, but being in Canada and near the Vancouver area, Headphone Bar it was!

Although current info from Focal apparently says first week of October until I can have them in my hands

However, I will have an aftermarket cable already waiting for them when they arrive, so that is a good thing! Will be able to run balanced straight out the box. And from there I will probably get the stock cable reterminated and a small chunk of it turned into 1/4 -> 4-pin XLR adapter in case I ever need it!

All our testing has the Nordost Heimdal 2 as Top Dawg in this arena. Our human listening tests are almost identical on preference. It also comes as a kit to step down to 1/4 & 3.5. So you get all kinds of connectivity in the kit.

You did a great thing... Congrats on the Utopia! What cable?

I already had a cable on the way from Trevor at Norne Audio for my TH900 & HD800 (Draug 2).

So I figured I would look at them for a Utopia cable as well. He suggested the Eternus cable for the Utopia which is a large gauge pure silver cable (4x20awg silver occ litz). The cable is currently not listed on their site but I found a picture from another member here:

Since my other cable was already about to be shipped soon, Trevor said he could do a rush service on the Eternus for me.

I will probably go for all black connectors and for the splitter, something dark and perhaps carbon fiber to go with the theme of the Utopia

You may be on to something here. I spoke with Peter from Double Helix Cables and he also confirmed to me that his Prion4 19AWG (18.8awg exact) OCC Silver Litz is the best-sounding cable of all the ones he tried with the Utopia. So it might be that the Utopia sounds best with the largest gauge silver cable you can afford.

Now the only thing left for me is to save up for these beauties...

Waoow!
I too am considering this combo. Will you be using a specific amp out of the Dave
(then which one)
or will you directly connect the Utopia to the Dave?

For my first evening listening, I will start as an appetiser, the single ended hadphone out of the Dave with my HD800S and HEK. I have heard the trios quite extensively at my dealer and think that both headphones are great match, with some bass advantage to the HEK. The main entree will Dave with Ragnarok to see if there is any magic going balanced cables for my cans and also with my KEF LS50/sub speaker set up. The Utopia will then join in as desert for a sweet roundup. Hahaha, salivating as I type.

Which sub do you use with the LS50's, I have LS50's in my home office and was thinking of adding a sub? Thanks

I recycle an old sub from my home theatre setup with Monitor Audio ASW210. It has twin10inch cones. Good enough to compliment the LS50 for LF when properly setup crossover/phase/placement. Highly recommend that you add a sub or two if you are not using LS50 for nearfield listening.

jl audio's E-subs are a great buy as they have true crossovers in them, not just low pass filters. After a lot of demoing I settled on 2 JL E112s to use in my system. They are about 95% of the fathom's sound quality at 1/2 the price.

I'm so happy someone kicked in with a real subwoofer recommendation. JL Audio is without a doubt the best bang for the buck in subs! Good suggestion!
