Tool - Lateralus (nice to see this one mentioned so much instead of the other ones)

how can you guys say this album qualifies?
please explain to me how mantra -aka maynard's cat meowing in slow motion, and faaip de oaid - what amounts to mostly loud static, and an alien conspiracy tape are not considered filler?
they are certainly by no means music, songs, or worth listening to more than once.

lateralus is an epic album, but does not belong on this list.

there, ive completed my rant quota for the day..

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

One of the only albums I can listen straight through

the first album that I can remember thinking to myself, "wow, every song on this album is amazing" was STP - Purple.  Sadly, I feel that their music went downhill from there.

For me personally, these following are albums that I like to listen to from start to finish in one sitting, so they are flawless for me, and some of my favorites.

Switchfoot - Nothing Is Sound
Switchfoot - Oh! Gravity.
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Buckethead - Pepper's Ghost
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Ochre - A Midsummer Nice Dream
Gorod - Leading Vision

And possibly Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, also.

Depeche Mode - Violator

Dude.  You are so right.

Which brings up an interesting question for me:
What happened to the 9-song album?  It used to be satisfactory for an artist to put 9 or 10 songs on an album.  And this brevity was a good thing.
All killer, no filler.   And the album never outstayed its welcome.
Which is why Violator just kills it.

But today's records have north of 13 or 14 songs on them (thanks to the 74+ minute capacity of the cd), and there's inevitably a few moments that don't seem to cut it.

Anyway...  it's no coincidence that a lot of the flawless albums i can think of are of the brief sort.
Sadly, if Boston were to try to release their debut album today, some record exec would try to convince them to pack on at least three more tracks....
