Flare Audio R2PRO Kickstarter campaign

Unfortunately I don't have the R2PRO any longer, so I cannot state anything factual here.
Based off my auditory memory though, I feel my modded R2A is slightly different sounding in a good way.
I listen to mostly classical music and R2PRO's bass was just about right and R2A without modding had that elevated bass which made everything sound congested.
Now modded R2A is very flat and correct sounding for my taste with perfect amount of bass vs just about right (R2PRO).
I am guessing bass is about couple decibels lower than R2PRO and maybe 2-3 decibels higher than Aurisonic Rockets.

I personally find that the Pro bass, although less of it is faster and a bit more controlled. Are you getting that with the R2A mod, or just less bass in volume?

And have you experimented with just a disc of compressable material rather than filling the ring with bluetac?

Interesting. Are they manufactured by Flare themselves? When using Comply tips I feel like renting my R2Pros from Comply. Besides Comply tips are far from perfect with Flare IEMs as the Tx-200 tips make the overall sound signature somehow dark and veiled, while the T-200s make the R2Pros too "shiny".

Yes, definitely faster and more controlled bass.

I also tried putting small disc - cut off from dried up alcohol swabs but didn't like the sound.
Since doing this modification, I'm digging the current state of sound so much that I may not open the rear housing again for few weeks.

I also received spinfit tips (L) today so I put de-cored comply forms behind them and tried briefly.
While I appreciate their clear sounding signature, I almost ruptured my eardrum pushing that thing into my ear canal.
It builds way too much pressure and I had to take a good half day break from listening.

So true that it is worth repeating from the Lotoo thread....

PAW Gold (LOTOO PMEQ) > NXT-2AK > Flare Audio R2PRO (fully closed end caps, Comply Tx-200)

My new high-isolation, dynamic driver, easy-on-the-ears combination. Lots of detail and ambiance even in loud locations.

My dream travel rig has arrived. Rocking it and loving it.

Another reflection on the combination above, and generally on the Comply Tx-200, do not insert them too deep. The Complys still do a good job of isolation shallow (although not quite as good as deep) but the ambience and overall sound stage coherence are greatly improved with shallow insertion. The sound stage moves forward in front of you and the integration of left and right is much better. Instead of left and right bubbles, the sound stage is continuous and easier for the brain to process.

What a great IEM! I guess I said that before... :-)

I agree completely, better sacrifice a bit of isolation for the Flares' very nice out-of-head soundstage. I have hybrid tips in front and halved foam tips behind them, and isolation is still decent, even with a shallow seal.

Listening to these with the Jaben Spinfits. Tried this last night and thought that the Spinfits might not be the best for this iem. However, having  put the other pair on my IE80s and achieved a stunning improvement I decided to try a simple experiment. With the Senns you put the cable over the ear and I thought I'd try that with the R2A Flares. What I found was that the Spinfits just slotted into my ear so easily and the sound immediately improved. The bass definition that has been talked about was suddenly there and not muffled or boomy. Soundstage grew, clarity came back...... listening to Grace Jones at the moment and to hear every note so clearly of Robbie Shakespeares bass guitar is revelatory.

Now I am going to try the Flares with JVC SDs and also the Ortofon silicon tips but I am so impressed with what I am hearing....

Got some Japanese Spinfits coming from Dopaminer and it will be interesting to see if they are different.

I haven't found anything in this thread on Flares -> GeekOut 100 IEM? is GO100 sufficient to drive Flares?

I have the GO v2. has both 100mw and 1000mw output. I need the 1000mw output to get the volume levels I want (I don't listen too loud)

with the 100 mw, i'd need to max it out and I'd have almost no headroom with volume.

how is the GO V2? I have had my eyes on that for awhile now. The shells look kinda iffy from the pics I have seen. Am hoping someone decides to sell theirs soon so I can pick it up second hand haha

The R2Pro is such an excellent pairing with the Cozoy Aegis, a case where 1+1=3 :)

The sound is really nice. I like the details and smooth character of the sound. the two filters will actually make a difference to my ears (one of them is a little smoother and less shouty with female vocals).

but the casing is really bad. Like, really, really bad. It has an uneven semi-glossy look that feels and looks cheap. They really needed to change up material and/or finish process. If it were matte and less uneven on the flat surfaces (and the two sides mated together) it would be OK. but as-is. yikes. hard to recommend as  total package. But if you care only about sound, I can’t fault it.

I think my T200 Complys have arrived in the post (will collect a small package tomorrow). I got the multi-coloured tips for another way to indicate left and right..

Was surprised that they were £11 including postage from the US via US Amazon. The Tx versions are so much more expensive for that wax guard.
