IMHO to stay within your budget I'd get the Beyerdynamic DT-770 pros (or similar priced phones), C&C BH and the Fiio L9. You can get the whole package for a little under $300.

I tried these out today and had to turn them up the whole way to hear the music on my iPod. Why is this?
