After reading this review and a short discussion with Amirm (from ASR) , ordered the Matric Sabre X Pro for the second workstation/office at home.

AK SP2000 > Matrix SABRE X Pro > McIntosh MHA100 > Focal Utopia/FiR M5.

Last pic is the McIntosh amplifier on normal gain (250mW) with 8 Ohm - 40 Ohm setting, driving the FiR M5 IEMs with the FiR Scorpion Cable.

Just arrived last week and the second workstation setup is complete.

I've been curious about this for a while, so I'll ask you: why do you use such a capable DAP as a source for a capable DAC? If you have a good desktop DAC and amp, wouldn't any cheapie DAP suffice? Or, do you use your AK2000 as both a home and mobile source?

In 2019 BC (before Corona lol) and the years before that, 98% of my listening was done outside the house and at work or somewhere in between.

Perhaps, but there are cheaper DAPs with streaming ability, and he could also use his phone. It just seems weird to me to use an expensive DAP if you're only using it for memory/ storage. Unless you're not.

Are there any comparisons between the FIR m4 against the U12t? Understandably, there only seems to be comparisons with the Trio in most reviews.

I owned the A12t prior to M4. The A12t compared to the universal version I felt was a little smoother up top and had more bass qty and extension probably due to excellent seal I had. Compared to M4 I felt the A12t had more bass qty, but overall it can’t match the M4s dynamic impact. Overall I prefer the M4 bass for impact, great extension and it’s well controlled. Mids go to the M4 IMO and highs go to the A12t. The one issue I have with M4 is a peak in the highs that bothers me a little with some music. Didn’t experience that with A12t but remember thinking that the U12t was slightly brighter.

Is this scorpio spc the exact same cable? With low resistances and its 8wires version with 4.4mm...
