I've never heard a Panasonic ear / headphone that I have liked... no bass (crunchy, cheap sounding) and exagerrated highs... and i've had more than my share...

The EX71s... maybe I just got lucky with mine, but after a couple of thousand hours of use, there is no problem at all with their treble, and their midrange is nice and fluid... with only a slightly exagerrated bass which for some music genres is actually quite complimentary...

I guess the point of my post... YMMV

I have hear 3 of them.. my preference is still Panasonic > Sharp MD33> EX71..
After burning in the panasonic become less harsh and a more balance kind of sound.. it actually has more bass cause i can feel the air been punched out from the driver.. The sony has tighter bass but for most song it become too bloomy and the mid and high is zero.. The sharp has a kind of metallical sound... even after burning in.. quite harsh sound.. need to mod.. I even try them with Superdual and super mini.. The EX71 does not benifit much while the panasonic sound much more better.

Out of the box go for the panasonic.. they are value for money..

lright thnx everuone.
I decided to get the Panasonics. Ima prolly order them later off amazon when my parents get home. Im really happy, exept that Im a little worried about the cord.

Will the short cord(without the extension) reach from my ears to my pocket(I always keep my mp3 player in my pocket). If not, will adding the extension add too much weight?? And will it make TOO much bulk in my pocket were it would feel uncomforable and bulky??? Note that my little iRiver(899) mp3 player has to share space.

I dont mind if its not that much of a bother, but I dont want them being too long and heavy.

Yeah, but I hear people say they are about the same quality. And since both have the weird cords, and the Panasonics are half the price, Im going for the Panasonics.

And can someone answer my cord questions?

With the Y-Joint resting about where the neck meets torso, the short cord reaches almost down to my belly button. YMMV, YourTorsoMayVary. The extension cord, like the rest of the cord is pretty thin and lightweight. The excess takes up very little mass if you stuff it into your pocket or wind it around your iriver, which I do with my IFP. It takes up very, very little mass. I end up winding it around the player maybe 4-6 times only.

Unless you're playing really loud in a very quiet room and a person leans their head right next to yours, there will be no sound coming out. In normal situations, ambience kills any little bit of sound that somehow does it make out.

i'm thinking of getting some er-6 tips to get better isolation out of my hje50s...but they're so darn expensive (i live in canada, and shipping is sometimes even more than the tips...i just want to try out a pair or two, don't particularily need a 10 pack)

From my personal experience, I think that the best-sounding pair of earbuds out of the 3 is the Sharp MD33.

Good detail, clear and tight bass, and very powerful mids. Nothing is sonically wrong with these earbuds. There is clearly a boost somewhere in the lower midrange, but it is not bad sounding at all. In fact, they sound much better (or more "fun") than other cans because of this little boost. And for their price, it's a bargain.

The Panasonics sound somewhat more "raw". I don't know how to put it, but there's something about the mids that make them sound this way. They sound great on certain Rock songs, especially those with bright, overdriven thrash guitar chords, but unpleasant on other midrange tones. There is not as much detail as the Sharps, and the treble is clearly inferior, but the bass is tight and punchy. Again, for this price, it's a steal.

The Sonys are, in my opinion, overhyped and sound quite terrible. The bass is totally overblown and very muddy. There seems to be a false impression of clarity when you first listen to them, until you notice that you couldn't make out the little details you could on other phones. Some people actually enjoy the "fun" value of these, with their huge boomy bass and heavily coloured sound, but these are definitely not my cup of tea.

If I were to rank these,

Bass:
Sharp > Panasonic > Sony

Mids:
Sharp > Panasonic > Sony

Treble:
Sharp > Panasonic > Sony

Overall Sound Quality:
Sharp > Panasonic > Sony

Value:
Panasonic > Sharp > Sony
