I know the HJE50s are WAY cheaper, but if the difference between these and the other 2 is worth it, id spend the extra cash. Plz tell me how comfortable they are, how they sound, the cord stuff, ect.

I thought you were either buying an ex81 or e888.
Anyways, between those three, I would grab the Panasonics. Cheap, but solidly built, as well as producing a great sound. It is said to have a better sound than ex51/71. Sharp MD33 is the best of them, but can get quite expensive through international sale. Also, the 4-pole cord could be bad.

I would also go with the HJE50s. There are only 2 known problems with them, the fact that 1 cable is longer than the other for around the neck wear (I don't mind these at all since I do wear it around the neck. The other problem is the extension cord is too long, but these are just minor problems which shouldnt be much of a bother.

PS: Oh yeah, avoid the sonys. They are way too boomy and the panasonic would win over them any day.

Prototype, uve been awesome. ANd I changed my mid cuz my dad said 60+ was too much. He wont bulge=(. But Im leaning mostly towards the HJE50s. Just one question- These are $20 while the ex71s are 32(both in amazon.com) See, the shipping is free when u buy $25+. So should I buy the HJE50s and then buy some crap for about $5 or should I just go for the Ex71s??

I kinda like the Panasonics more because the look better(imo), and many people say they have problems with the cord for the ex71s. So if the difference in sound is not that big, I guess Ill go with the panasonics.

So plz help

Well, the EX71's are out because they're horribly unbalanced. Too much boomy bass and super bright highs. Not audiophile phones by any means. The Sharps and Panasonics are supposed to be about the same sonically, but the Panasonics are cheaper but have a very short cord. It's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth it to spend extra for the longer cord and get the Sharps or live with it and get the Panasonics.

EDIT: I just noticed the Sharp phones are out of the running for you. Don't get the Sonys. While plenty of people think they sound good because they have lots of bass (not good) and lots of 'detail' (they're super bright), they do not accurately reproduce music by any means.

well they come with an extension cord(right?) so I guess it wont be too much of a problem.

And one more Q, is this really better than the Sennheiser 400/500???

lol sorry JW, I was talking about the Senn mx400/500, sorry for the confusion.

And is the cord a real big problem?? Im only like 5ft 4in. so will they go from my ears to my pocket which is where I always have my m3 player?

It has like the longest lengths ever for an uneven cord earbud. 24 inches right cord, 7+ inches left cord. Both are measurements for lengths stemming from the 3-way split to earbud.

The extension cord is fairly long, like on the EX7x. It's light and pretty soft though, so you can easily stuff it into a pocket or wrap it around your player.

i got the Ex71 before and it was alright until i got my klipsch speakers thn i realised i've been missing alot of the highs and mids. anyway the cord broke down after one year.

i bought the HJE-50. wasn't too please as if was v.harsh on my ears. too forward sounding. so i modded it with a tad of cotton wool in front of the drivers and boy, they're more balanced now.

sound as good as the Mx500 plus the tight bass, though there's no clarity and colouration in sound. it's very economical for one that's on budget. get it.

I have a pair of the pannies and I find the extension cord to not be much of a problem if I'm using it (I usually use my remote. I find that clipping it to my bag strap helps to reduce microphonics). Anyways, if I'm using the extension, I keep the excess rolled up near the player end of things with the twistie tie that came in the original packaging (there is also a little cloth bag you could use). I have to say that these are really great for the price, but a little painful to use (my first inner ears). I think that when I stick them in deep enough to actually isolate, the driver housing makes contact with the surface of my outer ear canal and it gets irritating. I will definitely be using them less once I'm in a position where I'm not riding a commuter train everyday.

Also, from what I have seen, these little guys are more durable than the sonies. They also look cheap like a mug, so I'm not afraid of anyone trying to steal them.

I haven't really noticed them being so bright that they are fatigueing. I usually get tired of the physical sensation of them being in my ear first. You think that mod is really worth it?

Sharp MD33: better sound and better value than the EX71. I agree with that.

But I can't agree with the best bass ranking. I have a really well burnt-in pair of EX71 and have read lots of different opinions (strong likes and strong disklikes) here about the bass they produce.
For me, the EX71-bass is not their main problem (the shrill highs are), it's rather ok. But better than the MD33 bass? No way! The MD33 has a much cleaner, much more enjoyable bass than the EX71. I have to admit that I'm talking about the modded MD33 version, but when comparing these to the EX71 the Sharps win in every single category.

-> Best bass: MD33 > EX71

If the MD33 are out of range pricewise (only then!), I guess you should go for the Panasonics (or, to put it the right way: I would give them a try, though I've not listened to them myself by now and can't exactly tell you about their qualities.)

You are right. I should have quantify it as

Best for Bassheads: EX71> MD33 > HJE50

Incredibly, my wife prefers the EX71 over the HJE50. Her loss, my gain.
