FiiOxJadeAudio KA1/KA11,JadeAudio JA11 Compact Portable DAC and Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

Anyone else found KA11 bass heavy? My DT 1350's are already very generous with bass and every album sounds like it was mixed by Steve Harris.

Yep KA11 is bass focused and warmish, definitely not neutral.

The new JA11 is more neutral, but has PEQ to change the tonality should you wish to.

So I measured the EQ with the 1.8 firmware and its a very odd bug - if you are interesting I posted it over on AudioScienceReview:

https://audiosciencereview.com/foru...port-for-peq-dsd128-pcm384.55160/post-2035872

But a quick summary for those you don't want to go:

This firmware I am using (which I believe is the latest as of this post):

Setting 3 different filters at 100Hz, 700Hz and 2000Hz:

I end up with this EQ (when measuring a FiiO FD15):
JA11-EQ-Measurements.jpg
The actual PEQ values set are 1.83x times the original value so:
100Hz -> 183Hz when measured
700Hz -> 1280Hz when measured
2000Hz -> 3670Hz when measured

So it's 'workable' with a calculator to set the correct EQ - but please @FiiO if you could fix this it would be an amazing dongle (especially at the price).
do i understand correctly, that you wont get a flat frequency response wih the JA11 or is this your unit only?

No you get a flat frequency response with the JA11- but the PEQ filters are currently messed up ( e.g.wrong frequency is applied to the device than is shown in the UI) and oddly on my unit they are slightly different than other units. But I am hopefully that it will be fixed soon and I will remeasure. I also bought a JCALLY JM12 from aliexpress which I believe can be made 'compatible' with the JA11 ( it accepts FiiO Firmware ) so when that arrives I compare the 2 cables.

Well, just updated (or at least tried to) my JA11’s firmware using the Fiio Control app on my wife’s Pixel 7a.

It bricked the JA11.

Neither the Pixel, nor my iPhone 15 Pro, my Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, or my iPhone SE gen1 will recognise the dongle anymore.

I want to like Fiio’s/Jade Audio’s products, but I’m at the end of my tether. Their concepts are fantastic, but their implementation is abysmal.

To Fiio/Jade Audio: YOU REALLY NEED TO IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY CONTROL.

I now have a KA11 that cuts out from overheating and a JA11 that no longer serves any purpose.

I’m going back to my Audioquest Dragonfly Red.
Hello,
do you think the sound quality of the Dragonfly Red is better or not? I’m thinking of getting either one of them. Thanks for your help!

I've just received mine and I have the same problem.
It doesn't show up in the app
It doesn't show up in my computers device manager
It does not show up in the update utility
I've contacted their support..
Make sure you have a headphone or iem connected to it otherwise it doesn’t connect ( it is a power saving feature)

Edit: Got it working by flashing on my laptop. See a few posts below.

Please don't worry, JA11 will not be damaged. If the previous V1.8 firmware update failed in the APP, you can update it again through the computer.
In the tools inside. After you click SCAN, see what device is displayed in the drop-down box? If there is no JA11, please see if COM is displayed and select it.

I saw COM3. Rolled the dice and tried to flash the update, and it worked.

Actually very helpful support. Thank you.
