FiiO X7 preview world tour--tour impressions rolling in

What is this icon? I get nothing when I press on it.

That's the DLNA functionality. When you change the shortcuts in the settings for the Music app and deselect the DLNA shortcut that icon disappears in the main Music app screen. However, right now, DLNA is not functional. Too bad as it's very handy to stream from a home NAS sever.

WOW, that will be exciting for home use.

In the sense that if I can use the X7 to directly read music files from my NAS drive, then I can cut the PC out of the loop. AND more importantly, the dependence on a really problematic USB connection that seems to introduce a lot of artifacts.

Crossing my fingers there will be an update to enable the DNLA functionality before the world-tour X7 arrives at my mailbox.

Yeah, it's a fantastic feature on the AK240, but WiFi sucks the battery like a vampire in a blood bank. Wish I could test it on the X7 right now.

Guess I was not thinking far enough, I was thinking of a wired connection. I do currently do DNLA over cable, specifically ethernet (don't expect to see an ethernet connection on any DAP any time soon), but the HD box also has USB 3.0 (which probably gets me back to at least some of  the USB issues I was hoping to finesse.)

Never really explored Wi-Fi for hi-qual audio ... does it have the bandwidth to do the job without compromises ?

The 240? In my house yes. The X7, no idea.

Not WiFi if you want HiFi, be care turn off the WiFi to get the pure music cause the WiFi will cause some small hiss.

This might be a dumb question but II have to ask...

I downloaded the firmware files onto my SD card and installed it using the developer mode (- volume and power) then selecting the file.

When I remove the SD card to ship the unit to the next guy, will the firmwares still be installed?

I would assume so, just more want to be sure this thing is all set for the next guy.

Thanks in advance

Why not just download to the internal downloads folder and upgrade from there? That's what I've been doing, and the X7 reports success after every FW upgrade.

Ya ya... Lol

I just went off of the instructions from the first firmware upgrade.

I'm a rebel...

Once installed, you no longer need to store the firmware file on the device.

Take that with a grain of salt. I don't have the X7 yet. I'm basing this info off every electronics device I've ever seen, used, or heard of.
