X7 is not in beta, I think that happened on the 2nd half of 2015. FW 3.x is in beta and its the same as X5 3rd "stable" firmware, so this is a bit relative.

I know nothing, I heard someone from FiiO saying by mid 2017 X7 2nd should be announced. Whatever will be the scenario, it would be good to know if the + $400 I spent in amps and accessories will die with X7, or not...

That's why I asked, although the answer will change anything on my intentions

Believe it was intimated earlier in the thread regarding compatibility, regardless, time elapses, and upto date confirmation is most welcoming

Price is a bit tough at $59,90

I've been closely monitoring the X5 iii thread and have been close to dumping down cash, but, patience whilst enjoying the original X7 accompanied with anticipation of the upcoming 2ND gen X7 has kept any monetary burning close to the hip.

I have an X5 2nd Gen, A5 and Fidue A83 IEM setup. If I was to purchase an X7 and just use it in file browsing mode, how many firmware issues would I possibly encounter that are currently waiting to be addressed?

I use it this way and no issues whatsoever with newest firmware.

Many thanks for the answer I did have an X7 a while ago with the original version of android 4.4? and I forget what firmware it had. Can't remember any issues. Thought they would be out of Betas by now, though. But it's getting better by all accounts.
 
Still undecided whether to get an X5 3rd Gen or another X7.
