My screen has been acting funny for quite some time now. When I try to press the keys "N" and "H", it will go crazy and spam "JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ" or "GGGGGGGGGGGG" instead.
Which makes it REALLY difficult to type in. Above you can see a test in parts of the screen that go absolutely bonkers, It's all supposed to be very similar patters. With the wonky touch controls though, the pattern breaks and becomes distorted. As you can see with the middle of the first picture, and the second X. After those, in the third picture, the second half of the squigly line pattern completely breaks then it does so again in the last two squigly lines.

It's really aggravating to use sometimes, especially when searching for music with these characters. Please FiiO, if you can read this, fix this crappy little player. I know it's the software. It's worked fine with certain updates in the past before.

could you please downgrade to a version in which you're certain it worked correctly?

This seems more like hardware failure to me.

That's actually what I'm looking for. I'll have to go back to kitkat or the first version of 5.1
I'll let you know when I find it!

After getting a X5ii as a second player for trips away and the beach. I was considering getting another X7 as my best DAP, but after reading all the issues with the firmware, I don't think I will. How long does it take!

What is the best firmware with the least problems with it?

I've been using the X7, with no issues, for months. Let me preface this by saying I may not be the best person to judge since most of the current issues do not apply to the way I use the DAP.
For me
Plays perfectly, I have no issues with scanning, (I just popped my SD card I was using with my DX80 and had a few minor problems in the beginning, about a year ago, which have been resolved) sound is brilliant, battery is adequate.
I only use the stock player and with the exception of updates I rarely leave pure music mode. I don't play video, try to store music from streaming services, need to attach it to a server or use bluetooth.

So based on my needs it's a wonderful player but again, my needs are limited by me. I bought it to play high quality music and it has not disappointed me.

I've also had extremely, good results with the X7 to date (currently on 3.1.6).
- scanning: I've maintained a fairly large digital library in one form or another for about 15 years now and have suffered with issues in the past with combinations of marginally-non-standard tags, non-US character issues and too large album art images or formats. To that end, I'd say my library has become quite friendly for scanners over the years.
- playback: I had a few music app crashes on FW3.0.x but those have become non-existent now.
- gapless playback: has worked really well for me with the latest 2 FW updates. No noise or jitter in the crossover between tracks (flacs, generally not dsd)
- bluetooth: the addition of aptx has improved things a lot for me, especially if you don't keep interrupting the player. I'm generally only using this with a Noble BTS so my sample is quite small.
- SQ: really enjoying the sound from this device. I listen to most genres but do tend to love bass when the music suits, so V4A has been a big thumbs up and has been working well, with little to no distortion with the EQ cranked up.

I'd agree that the sorting functions have left me puzzled from time to time. I tend to play music an album at a time so this hasn't been a huge deal, but I can see that searching/sorting could be an issue for some.

If I was being honest, this is the first piece of hardware I've owned of this type where the vendor takes ANY user comments into consideration, so I've been used to altering my media to align with the idiosyncrasies of the device and, to that end, I've ended up with what I consider to be a very compatible library.
I'm interested to hear if people consider this to be an unacceptable aproach and feel that the vendor should solve issues, such as scanning, for all types of tagging/characters etc? I think after spending nearly 30 years in the computing/software industry I tend to try to 'fix' things on my end wherever possible.

Would like to hear what people think.

We like the x7 here. We like Fiio because they listen (unlike a Korean firm). We like the sound of the Fiio app in pure mode. But we are all 21 century humans with many needs and we all want everything now. But it is intresting being part of the development process and you meet a lot of interesting people here

I agree. It's a considerable investment to go with a high quality DAP along with all of the hardware that's required to get the best out of it (as the Mrs likes to remind me from time to time) and people want everything to work off the bat. It's a tricky balance a vendor has to find between high functionality (which means a lot of code which needs to play nice) and a simple narrow cut down OS which is simpler to debug. Guess there's a lot of us in the X7 forum that likes functionality

simply retagging a track yourself should do, right?

Surely we have already done this, but we did find not any problem with it. we think it might be the character codec or something. So it would be better if you could send us the track for testing. Thank you very much.

I've just bought a X7 and have a couple of questions:
1. Does it support Youtube? I've installed the app, but it plays only the sound of the videos and has no picture.
2. Does X7 support VPN?
3. Does anyone has a Qnap NAS and can successfully play the musics in it within and outside the lan?

Thanks!

duyu,

1. please kindly upgrade the firmware to the newest one. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qdf3xy59sm6vy9w/X7-ota-3.1.6.zip?dl=0
2. Sorry , X7 did not support VPN at present ,but we will report it to our Engineer.

I can, but it's a 128bit DSD file and is 557MB in size, so it will take a while to upload it - are you sure you really want it?

phallam,  it will be better for you to give us ,and then we can test it and fix it.

Thank you .

Hi, I've attached a link to the video of my Fiio x7 rebooting in loop and my battery drains within 4 hours or so.

It'll die out of sudden and starts rebooting and batt from 15% will drop to 0%.

My warranty is left with about 2 weeks since last year I bought.

Right now, charging it but will not turn on even with charger connected.

Edit: Before it ran on fw 3.0.9 beta. All was good. Nothing out of place.

Currently on fw 3.1.2 with AM2.

Products dying close to warranty scare the wits out of anyone!

Kindly help Fiio, Thank you!

Hi Fiio,

Thank you for reaching out. My Fiio X7 died and it'll not turn on.

I'm very sad.

I'll send it to the servicing centre in Singapore soon.

Should I email Fiio support and CC to the service centre in Singapore about this?

Thank you.

  Hello Fiio,

I will, firstly, make some suggestions for fixing some bugs that I found on the last 3.1.6 firmware.

1) Fix DLNA Playback
2) Replaygain
3) Fix Chinese characters when appear 'ç', á, à, ú, ó, í, ã characters.
4) More sorting options like other DAPS
5) Gapless playback is still not perfect (sometimes noisy transition) Maybe replaygain will fix this?
6) Scanning problems
7) When the 'Search' function is selected the X7 freezes and gets slow and take a long time to start the Search screen. After that, the selection of each letter is very slow too. Is not fluid like the rest of the Fiio app music.

Thanks!!

Fred-svv,

Some of problems that you mentioned may be related to your tracks ,could you kindly contact us via support@fiio.net or PM us here.  and then we can know more details about it. Thanks for your kind help.
