  The HD650/AM5  sounds excellent.

i have both am3 and am5
the am5 is warmer and more powerful

I like the hd650 balanced through the am3
if you're handy with a soldering iron its simple to mod a cable

i prefer the am3 but they are both quite pleasing
the am5 has a bit more oomph for my planars

I totally agree. I should have my balanced cable tomorrow and I'm quite sure the AM3 will compliment the 650 more than the AM5.

Agree. However if target is X7 display you can't spot the difference of JPG compression artifacts, unless you use very high compression when saving (Photoshop 8 and above is OK). For a 800 x 800 pixel image, it varies with image content (higher or lower frequency images, even areas noise, etc) a good quality not very compressed image should stay in between 120 and  200 Kbytes

Of course - I also resize cover art to smaller than my secured copy so it loads faster

I just don't trust JPG as much as png, even if jpg has 100% quality kept. It is tearing me inside to know that JPEG will distort the image a little bit every single time it is opened...

Wish I had balanced cables to test this - I'm quite sure I would like the combination of AM3 BAL + HD650.

I also like AM3 + HD650 most as x7 module + HD650.

I think you're referring "... bit every single time it is edited and re-saved ..." ? JPG preserves its integrity even when edited and resaved, Photoshop for example doesn't change the image even if you save it 100 times on top of each other (there is a myth on this). Only the pixels edited on a block of 8x8 pixels (Jpg compression is made individually on 8x8 px blocks) are re-saved and then can loose quality.

My 2 cents

Displaying a JPG image will not add any new distortion. It will display at the same quality every time and will not degrade. The only place where JPG images degrade progressively is when you EDIT them.

Yes, but it's like a form of OCD - I know that that happens so I don't want to trust JPEG...

I had witnessed a situation where an image degraded - but not with photoshop.

Anyways I do prefer keeping all in png. PNG and FLAC. Just lossless for everything I can

This is absolutely not needed for most people, it's just a thing I do sometimes. You can enjoy both music and art without doing this!

The power-off timer on the X7 seems to be working fine these days - but maybe it's a bit overzealous...

When I'm using my X7 as a USB DAC, it also turns itself off after 10 minutes :frowning2:  FiiO, is this behavior intended? My X7 powers down after 10 minutes, even though I have a source playing through the X7 DAC/amp.  Anybody else notice this?

@FiiO  there is a click noise between songs when using vipereffect without engaging gapless

so if i have vipereffect on the clicks are heard between songs, it only goes away if turn on gapless

this is on latest beta 3.13

I'm very interested in the ability to stream from Spotify or Tidal. Does anyone have much experience with this function, particularly the high res tidal tracks?

Also are there other DAPS that offer the streaming functionality ?

Dear csglinux,

Did you turn on the sleep or the idle poweroff function in the X7?

Best regards

Dear Sound Eq,

Thank you for the feedback. We will report to the engineers about that. Will this noise appear when turn off the vipereffect?

Best regards
