FiiO X7 | DXD | DSD | 384K/64B | ESS9018+ Android | WiFi | Bluetooth | 4 AMP modules | Balanced Out |

I have a dumb question. Is X7's coaxial cable (TRRS to TS, e.g. connects to Mojo) capable of line-out as well? (e.g. connects to 3.5mm input of Liquid Carbon or other headphone amps)
Thanks!

Agreed. Frankly, I would have been more than happy with Fiio telling us they needed more time to polish the update. Problem was, they were not communicating with us at all and that was worrying.

FiiO kind of is getting what they asked for here. A public beta on headfi is not the route I would have advised lol.

For me the frustration is the unstructured way in which the Beta testing is managed. There now seem to be 3 threads where members are recording issues/features/ bugs there is little feedback on whether the concerns are valid and are being addressed. It is unsurprising that members complain when a further release is made that still contains many of the issues previously reported. When the x5 was beta tested Bugzilla was used very effectively so that at a glance users could see the status of a bug fix or requested enhancement. The current approach is unprofessional and I'm not surprised people are losing confidence.

I recieved my AM3 amp and tested some headphones with it.

balanced:

Beyerdynamic T1 Bad match  volume is too low, sounds peaky at high volume.
HE-1000              Decent match, but not that good.
LCD-3F               Great match! They are driven well, open and dynamic.

SE:

The volume is way too low, lower than in my AM1, from the specs AM3 SE should be louder right? Is there a problem with my unit?

My driver version is 2.0

I'd just like to point out that personally I felt Joe Bloggs was a huge help at that time and was always on top of concerns and communication with those on Head Fi. Too bad he doesn't work at FiiO anymore because since he's left I recognize a bit of disarray.

This is 100% true. I have noticed the same.

Balanced it will put 70 mW into 300 ohms at 11 Vp-p, so into 600 ohm T1 it's going to be dependent on what you're listening to and how loud you listen.  Single ended which is considerably less power - and about 80/120 gets to my normal listening level (usually about 65-75 dB), so I'd be surprised if it won't get loud enough.  I agree with you that it can get peaky at higher volume - but that's simply because it is a fairly linear amp module (which I personally quite like).  Put a linear amp with a relatively bright headphone, and add volume - and you'll get what you describe.  Most people I know like the T1 with a warmer amp (often tube based) - so perhaps its more a case of tonal preference.  You may be better looking at the AM5 or AM2A for the T1.

And yes - the AM3 is roughly twice to five times the power of the AM1 - but that is load dependent.  It also has twice the voltage swing.

This is my concern exactly! Too many threads being used and this causes confusion to the people who are participating in the Beta testing. I suggested that they close the old threads but (to me) they only replied sarcasticly.

Here is their exact reply - how is it sarcastic?

  Hi, karloli
All X7 beta firmwares(Android 5.1) will be posted in that thread, we will not create new thread for beta firmware again. Thank you!

What you've failed to understand is that the thread you were posting in was their general thread for announcement of a Beta programme.  The other thread is specifically for fw 3.03 (http://www.head-fi.org/t/822983/official-x7-beta-firmware-android-5-1-download-and-discussion-thread-fw3-0-3-beta)

If they bang every discussion of the beta version into one thread then you'll have people with old versions and with new versions talking over each other - and associated confusion.  As long as there is discussion in the thread pertaining to the beta version indicated - I personally see no issues.

Well because they used the same thread for Beta 3.0 and 3.0.2 - so I was under the impression that they will use the same thread (and not create a new one) for 3.0.3 - so to me i already see confusion from there.

Yes they created a 3.0.3 thread, but i think they could have closed the other thread OR posted beforehand (in the same thread) to head over to this new thread - i learned of the 3.0.3 a week after if was created!

So for you, you might not have seen the confusion - to me it came as a surprise when they have another thread

My point was that unless there is a single dynamic list how are we to know if an issue has been addressed or not. When you try the next version of the firmware and the problem is stil there is it because it hasn't been addressed or has the solution not worked?

Yes, we are on the same page as you are. Too many threads. I just hope they address this.

As has been said before - FiiO released it as a beta so people could test it.  Thats the whole idea.  I'm afraid I don't really get the complaints.  If you don't want to be part of the testing programme - go back to their stable release.

I agree to a certain extent, but you would hope that even a Beta release would cure more problems than it created.

Hi, tomwoo
No, the cable is not compatible for line-out.

Hi, karloil
Sorry for making confusion.
Maybe you are meaning that post: http://www.head-fi.org/t/822149/the-public-beta-firmware-of-android-5-1-for-fiio-x7-is-coming/120#post_12957558
We won't release a beta firmware in there any more. The later beta firmwares will all be released in this post: http://www.head-fi.org/t/822983/official-x7-beta-firmware-android-5-1-download-and-discussion-thread-fw3-0-3-beta/30#post_12957400
We will change the title of it when new firmware comes. Thank you for your kind feedback.
