Ive had this 2.5 days and im seriously considering on sending it to the next guy as the UI is getting the better of me!!! This has crashed so many times Ive lost count, It will start to play a song than stop then start then sometimes will power off.If i want to play a different song it will say not responding and loop until I do a hard shutoff. I don't know if I have a lemon or what but this thing has me so pissed I don't even want to touch it right now!!!!

I'll personally say this is likely something abnormal that it sounds like Joe has given the go-ahead for a master reset on the device. I had the device for the full 10 days and I only had it crash on me once, and it was just FiiO music, it wasn't the whole device.

The unit I tested would hang quite a bit.... I'd turn it on and if I tried to play music it would alert me every single time that the player was not working ....  wait or abort playback....    after a while I found out I could just turn the X7 on.. set it on the desk for several seconds while it sorted itself out and then it would play fine....  it was like the X7 was rescanning the memory card each time I turned it on and if the memory card had lots of music on it then it would take a little time for the scan to complete....   then it would play fine...

the only other time I thought was strange was somehow I got it into a mode where the X7 was playing back Tidal and the Music Player at the same time...   that was strange...  probably operator error on my part though....

Thanks all for your input!

Alex, right now I'm trying what you suggested, I did not know you had to reboot after switching between the pure music and the FiiO. The previous tour guy forgot to give me the directions/instructions( they are in the mail, I just have not received them yet) I'm very familiar with Android though. I will give a progress report to see if this will remedy my issues.

Had mine for a few weeks, no crashing or hanging here.

Just the occasional drop-out in audio. I assume it's the amp module causing it.

The track would continue to play, and the audio would cut-out. Then, after a "click" it would kick back in.

Did this on both the old and new firmwares, and both in FiiOs music player app, and others.

No big deal, just thought I'd mention it.

@JamesFiiO : One suggestion, X7 definitely needs a power down (auto-shut off) feature.  I know, this is not typical for Android OS, but I think when you are in Pure Music mode, treat it like a standalone DAP to save the power, enabling a typical power down when idle for certain period of time (only in Pure Music mode).  Please

This is a good idea.  I would also like the ability to make calls as well as use an Uber app to take me to Best Buy for more memory cards.

I have not followed this thread much in the last few days as I wanted to write a review without knowing what others were saying.

I am responsible for not getting the reviewer booklets to Howdy though they are going out tomorrow.

Having said that, the unit does in fact crash in pure audio mode.  I found it far more stable in Android mode; though that was not perfect by any means.

I also got it into a mode where two sources played simultaneously, though that was not mentioned in the review.

This is a beta unit at the moment,  A beta unit with great potential.

Hello,

I was just reading a lot in this forum about the FiiO x7. But i'm really not a specialist in technical details... i just can telle the difference between good and bad sound .

So... i have 3 devices that interest me a lot:
- FiiO x7
- Pioneer XDP-110r
- Onkyo DP-X1

I want to pair one of these with my perfect sound d902 headphones. I would 95% of all the time stream with TIDAL. The sound has to be dynamic and clear. I listen everything... but mostly faster stuff like rock or metal.

They have all the same Pricetag... the formfactor is also similar... i don't know what to buy, since i have a big questionmark over quality :frowning2:. I have no possibility to test em...
Maybe you can help me. (sorry for the poor english. Its not my main language).

Thanks a lot!

^ No one can help you unless they have heard all the dap's in question, seeing as you are primarily concerned with sound, no one owns both daps con-currently from what I can tell, which is the only way impressions count for anything imo. I've only seen one person write very short impressions of X7 vs DP-X1 in the DP-X1 thread. I think you will simply have to wait until more impressions come in to get any kind of idea, even then, I wouldn't trust anyone's impressions lol, and I think it's obvious whichever dap you went with you would be happy from a sonic perspective, both dap's measure very well for what it's worth, so imo just pick whichever dap plucks at your heart strings

Can Fiio please give a release date already? What seems to be the hold up?

On FiiO's website they mention that their distributors and dealers in countries other than China, including the US,now have units in stock. They also mention that the firmware on these units is not completely stable in reference to USB DAC operation. No mention of when these distributors and dealers will be allowed to start selling the units they have in stock.

Ok thanks for the tip anyway! I saw that coming :)
I think i gonna go for the looks and size factor...As you said i think i gonna be happy anyway (also considering, that i make a first jump from Smartphone to DAP).

Lookwise i prefere the DP-X1... But qualitywise i trust more Pioneer (don't ask me why).
Sizewise x7 seems the best... But it looks a bit "cheap-china-phoneish"

Availability seems best for X7 and Pioneer.

I think i gonna go with the Pioneer...

The firmware seems to be the holdup. We want to make it more mature before shipping the X7 out to our customers. The X7 will have OTA firmware update capability in the mass shipments, ensuring that nobody misses out further updates down the line.
