Did you use eq during your comparision?
There is definitely difference between the fw2 and fw3beta in bass region, im comaring it right now with friends fiio x7, his unit have fw3.08 and mine is fw2, my fw2 have definitely more sub bass, if fiio wil not fix fw2 with google pop ups i will wait for fw3 only if they do make working the viper4android on fw3 or they make some software bass boost function in player... anyway i hope they will fix fw2...
honestly I am baffled by some user feedback who claim that the new beta firmware has the same bass as firmware 2, the bass is lighter in firmware 3 beta, and and also the sound is brighter. those two new changes in sq are not welcome in my books
I wanted to stay away from the beta since I was scared about things being unstable, but the talk about sound changes intrigued me. Since I usually use this the X7 as a laptop DAC, I figured the issues wouldn't bother me as much. Anyway, the upgrade was clean. The sound does seem to be brighter now, but I'm not noticing any reduction in bass. That's not to say I'm denying the possibility. I'll listen some more for it. I'm using AM2 with UM Pro 50 which is already on the basshead side.
Bought this unit about 4 months ago, as I was advised Tidal storage on external was coming soon. Still waiting!
Any news?
I think they got it working on the new beta firmware with spotify, but not 100% sure.

If that is the case, the x7 is no longer a nuetral-bright dap, but rather just bright.
I updated to 3.08 yesterday and I did it from a completly fully working firmware2... I have AM1,AM2,AM3 and AM5 modules and I can for the life of me not hear any chances in sound between the different firmwares.
I have pretty much only postive things to say for the firmware. It boots faster, the X7 does not get as hot, way better batterylife for me (an hour more with AM3 which is my default module), no google service problems (which I had like once every 5 days on fw2 so no biggie). It scans my 128gb sandisk without problems, might take a minute more or so, not sure tbh. No problems with covers or files not playing thus far (I only have 320kbps mp3 and flac, no other formats).
I have some small lag in the equalizer settings and when scrolling through the timeline on a song (takes 1 sec to actually start the music from where I set it in the timeline = not instant like on fw2.
Looking forward to next neta
