FiiO X7 | DXD | DSD | 384K/64B | ESS9018+ Android | WiFi | Bluetooth | 4 AMP modules | Balanced Out |

X7 should play video. All open video formats, maybe even using the VLC player if necessary. That would take full advantage of the screen...imagine watching streaming videos (via Android apps) with premium sound! Or your own Blu-Ray rips with perfect audio and solid video quality!

It's time for FiiO to move beyond the niche market of audiophiles and into the bigger world of people that want to basically have an android phone with better sound.

Also, games.

And if any of these suggestions end up meaning the loss of some features (such as high end DACs or the ability to play FLAC files), that's fine by me. It's literally impossible for the human ear to tell the difference between Hi-Res files and 128-quality MP3s. And I know this because I have excellent young ears that have been vetted as far above standard.

Um .... Fiio are developing a high-end DAP.  Not a gaming platform.  Not a video device.  I think you have the wrong thread.

The X3 is in the $170-200 price range at this point.

Yes, and what would be its street price next year? Probably around $130-$160? The X1 is already hurting the X3's sales I'm sure -- better UI and design -- so it makes sense to release an improved X3 that can sell at the original price point.

Quote:
That would begin to dig into the low end of the X5 sales.  I'm not sure they would want to take away from X5 sales.

And... that's when they start working on the X5K. That's a given since they'll eventually run out of those Blackberry screens they purchased.

On topic -- I do not own any FiiO DAPs, but I find it impressive how much they've improved starting from X3 to X5 to X1. I think they've learned a lot through their interaction with the users here, so that makes the X7 look very appealing to me. I'm interested to see what they come up with...

Same thing with The Beatles on Spotify...millions of great tracks aren't enough for you to use a free service because about 13 albums aren't on it?

Gotta say I agree with you there. I've only been listening to spotify for 3 weeks now, and I can't believe how much music I am finding and listening to. If it doesn't have everything (ie full Beatles discography or Taylor Swift's latest lol), that's okay because I'm still finding more than I can listen to and am enjoying it immensely. But it really ain't free (at least for me), because I quickly had to upgrade to the premium service to get away from the very annoying ads and get the higher quality streaming. Still, for $10 per month, it's hard to complain.

Who cares about the Beatles on spotify? The fact there is no BUDGIE on spotify is the real loss!

What you're proposing would be a more suitable prospect for a company like Oppo, which made its name making premium DVD and Blu-Ray players and are now in the business of making smartphones, along with a pet project now in high-end headphones and DACs.

FiiO, by comparison, is very small and would not have the production capacity nor the marketing clout to make such a device appealing to the general public. They specialize in affordable audio devices that happen to have great audio quality, and collecting feedback from enthusiast users. They do not have the buying power to source super high-resolution screens, however.

Or was he. If theres hope that someone other than Sony would make a all around beast device hope is rekindled in this one for my dream player to come into existence without me having to pound company X over the head with $$$$$$$$ and private emails :P

Well, based on this alone I would assume so:

"It's literally impossible for the human ear to tell the difference between Hi-Res files and 128-quality MP3".

There are two trains of thought about that statement.  There are multi-page threads on this site arguing the point.  No need to go into it here.  There will never be agreement, so we can agree to just disagree.

As to a video player, from everything James has said the X7 is NOT going to be one.  You want a good video player, buy an iPad, they work very well indeed to play video AND they have a screen you can see an image in.  The last thing I want is a music player that's NOT a brick (as James HAS said) with a teeny-tiny screen to watch videos on.

^ I stuff don't count as viable options, And such is a void that hasn't been filled hench the desire which shall never die.

now ANYWHO..................................

X7 needs 7 outputs ( .1 for when I hook it up to something other than headphones)

Just to be clear, you're not arguing with me about either point.

Edit: meaning I agree with both of your points. I think also that the audiolegend dude was being sarcastic (and I said so multiple times).

What I'm looking forward to finding out is if the digital output of the X7 will offer a better output than that of the X5...

Already supremely happy with my little setup, but - if I can get better still........ :)
