No. The rules are cool . Follow them. If I am wrong or out of line this will be gone. Nothing person windows x. If you had already cleared this with head-fi my 1st post would be deleted by me already

 
I was surprised that this was permitted. If I base myself on XDA where selling is prohibited, but donations are allowed, I expected a similar scheme on Head-Fi... 
 
Either way, root is easily achievable, some tweaks can also be easily achievable once rooted... More specific audio mods though, I wouldn't have expertise on and I enjoy when people share their experience. Would not necessarily pay for this though.

Here is the thing, the free custom firmware is better than the original one, that is a fact... I am not 100% about the sound (could be placebo) but the navigation is faster and you can see that it is lighter on resources usage. I appreciate Windows X work and I would like to say thank you, but yes, rules are rules. I think however, that he needs to be somehow compensated for his work if he requires so (I do not know how though, any suggestions? maybe going to XDA?)

Look. It was never my intention to sell the ROM here. I improved the ROM for free and people have no problems in using it. Some want better sound quality, more battery life, root support and so on. They did pay for those extra services I put on since it's time consuming to modify, repack, test. Again and again for days and nights. Spending hours of uploading big files for each person.

Since people started to ask for my extra mods, I already contacted head-fi to become sponsor so I can help them ethically. I'm waiting for their reply now.

Like @Hawaiibadboy , I also spent almost two months of my time making free UIs for X5 and I would never imagine asking money for it.
 
I did it for fun and to make people happy. I also thought this ROM side version is a free project 

 
Make sure everything is alright, I do want to see how this project advances!

He is NOT responsible for what other posters say.
 
He's been doing this for many different players.  In every case, he publishes a public/free ROM based on the firmware for that player.
 
It' seems odd to me that posters here are so concerned about his activities.  That's the Mods' job, and they are very ... vigilant ... in that regard

 
Frankly, if other folks do stuff like this for free, then more power to them.  And if WindowsX has managed to carve out a business doing something he likes/loves, which finds willing customers, then more power to him.

He's getting paid to do something similar to what you do for free?  He's getting paid to do something you don't see as valuable enough to be compensated?  Sorry, but BFD!
 
Head-Fi is completely capable of taking care of itself.  So is FiiO.  If you want to get paid as well, then figure out a business model and execute it.  If you don't see value in what he does, then do it yourself for free and under-cut him.

Will I become a customer for his Advanced ROM?  Possibly.

I'm a music listener, the more evolution we have for music, the better!
 
BTW, I don't own n X5-3 at the moment, but if this can be ported to X7, hat would be a lot in my area of interest.

I'll support @WindowsX . He is doing us all an excellent service.  I work with developers all day and see the in depth work that goes into the whole process.  I would definitely be willing to pay for an advanced version of his ROM.

I spent days of my life doing mods, differ kind but I did custom requests and passed them via dropbox and never made a cent. More than 24,000 DL's of the themes and I was happy that folks liked em' Flashed firmwares 1000+ times maybe waaaay more. It ain't that big a deal. editing pixels or editing code. You made your theme on your own and share it. I modded X5iii on my own share it. There's no difference here. And I'm following the rules by not replying to messages about my paid works. You just can't appreciate about paying for ROM services. Even if I get this done offcially later, I'm sure you will still can't accept this. Admit it.
 
I appreciate everyone who understands my intentions. I'm also giving away free themes and mods before too. Some of you may remember Windows transformation packs in past. I gave them for million of users worldwide for free.
 
I'm a grown up man now with busy things to do. I can't help realizing everyone's requests for free at the expense of my time for working. Repacking 500MB and 1GB files again and again for every changes isn't simple feat and thank you for your understanding.

Don't need screenshots. All you have to do is the following:
 
The URL for the full 1.1.1 ROM and flash tool: Unzip it in a folder somewhere
Unzip WindowsX's 1.1.4 modded ROM inside that folder (Overwrite the file if it asks you to)
Follow the instructions inside the folder's help document (All screenshots are there). It's detailed enough to follow step by step.
 
I recommend removing the SD cards if you have any before doing this operation.

I've had the X5iii for about a month on stock rom, and seriously, this modded rom ROCKS  Could easily tell the SQ difference between this and 1.1.4, even with mid-range headphones without external amplifier.  I definitely don't want to go back to 1.1.4. just for the SQ.
 
However I found one thing on my system that might kind of forcing me back to stock 1.1.4.  Fresh clean cache-wiped and factory eased from recovery menu, flashed by the took kit as instructed, No further changes under android setting menu, WLAN left on (Wifi intelligent sleep) and I found my unit won't go to deep-sleep but was being held by kernal wakelock of "wlan_wake" 99% (reportred by BetterBatteryStats), stuck at 312MHz.   Then I turn off the WLAN, sometimes the deep-sleep would work, sometimes doesn't.  I just can replicate the pattern, still kind of random.  No further software installed or disabled.  The stock 1.1.4 would allow WLAN set on and still able to get to deep sleep without drawing much power, but now the constant drop on battery is pretty obvious and fast even not in use and screen off.
 
Am I the only one or Mr.WinX would you be able to shed some light on this.  As said the rom is great on SQ and I need the juice to run it.  Appreciate your work!
