You don't need to amp the X5, its own amp is powerful enough to drive most headphones.
Also, combining the x5 with e 12 is better than the x5 with the e17. The e17 has the added feature of also being a DAC, but you can already use the X5 as a DAC, and the e12 is a superior amp.
you are saying the e12 is not necessary with x5, and also that you should use an e12 (rather than e17). So should I bother using the e12 with my x5 or not? Under what conditions? I have noble c4, th900,(both low ohm) and dt770-250s. They all sound fine without e12. Give me a song for example where I'll notice a difference.
