Hello every one, I have read through quite a bit of this thread, and I'm curious if people would still recommend this device? I'm in the market for a DAP that is able to use spotify/tidal applications along with my flac/mp3 library.

Haven't seen anything else in this price range that does that besides the X5 Gen 3.

I have been using my X5III every day at work and home -- on it's own; docked in a K5; or paired with an A5 amp -- with wired and wireless headphones since I received it in mid-March. I have had a (mostly) trouble free experience in all that time. My library (of mostly .flac files) plays flawlessly in the native Fiio Music app. I stream Spotify for hours without issue. I've encountered a few glitches here and there but overall, I still heartily recommend this player to any and all who ask (for what little my opinion is worth).

So I just got my X5 in the mail, and I can't connect it to a computer. It connects, and I get the option to put it into usb storage mode, and then it gets lost in a disconnect loop over and over. I tried 3 different cables and never stays connected. However it charges in the wall no problem. Not sure how to update the firmware if i can't connect it to the computer.

Help please. I'd hate to return this before I even got to listen to music.

Some people have reported to have connection problem. It more at the PC end rather than the X5 III. Try different ports and cables once again before you think of returning it.

EDIT: You can update the FW on the device itself without connecting to a PC.

Wifi for update. What computer and software are you using? Make sure your drivers are up to date. If you are on a Windows PC using the USB connections in the back as opposed to front panel works better in theory.

I'm using a Dell XPS 15 and the usb works fine with anything else. So not sure what to do about that. Wifi when i searched for update said I was on the most current and clearly 1.1.4 isn't.

So for now I just did it through a SD card however if I can't get it to work at some point before my 30 day return window is up I will more than likely return it.

Yes it's been discussed before. I and another user also have Dell laptops and experience the same problem, only my Dell (Inspiron 15 7000 series) lets me connect via one USB port and the other one gets the disconnect loop. No universal conclusion was reached regarding the cause of this anomaly, and I never tried to connect my X5-3 to other laptops.

@FiiO does the coax out only support up to 96 khz files? Can't get my 192 khz files to play at their native sample rate it seems..
For 192kHZ files, when playing via coaxial, the sampling rate would turn in 96kHz. We will try to improve it in later firmware but we can't make sure whether it would work by now. :frowning2:
Best regards

I would be interested in an Official fiio reply to this query. I asked the same question a few pages ago and fiio has so far declined to reply. I just looked a few minutes ago and this was still up on the fiio site in the FAQ section of the forum dated 1/20/17.

My memory seems to remember fiio confirming replaygain implementation in April in this thread.

I believe after this fiio made a statement on headfi in this thread that replaygain would not be implemented.

Fiio please clarify your position on this.
Not sure when did we mentioned that the replaygain would not be implemented in this thread before. We are sorry that we will try to add this feature in later firmware update.
Best regards

Are there any USB2.0 ports in your PC? Can it help?

Hi,

I have an XPS 15 and I have been asking @FiiO to sort this out for months, but everyone else who does not have an XPS keeps responding that there is nothing wrong with the USB connection so nothing gets done.

The FiiO X5III does not work with the XPS 15, as you have found out it gets stuck in a connect and disconnect loop which also affects some of the Microsoft Surface models. I have tried everything to fix this but it appears to be some kind of hardware conflict that will not be fixed by software updates.

Not sure what the XPS issue people are seeing is but, I have the XPS13 laptop with Ubuntu, not Windows, installed and the Fiio works fine. It mounts, it syncs and it plays.
I suspect this is more software than hardware based and an issue with Windows and it's drivers for some of the components, not the computers.

I have what it likely a very simple question. If I want to connect my DAP (either my X5III or my iBasso DX80) to a desktop amp, what kind of connector do I need? Would I use the Coax out to a stereo RCA cable?

Thanks for any help

Did you look at http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19610706 or other similar threads about connectivity with USB and your computer?

Updated my unit to the latest firmware and tested it over the last few days.
What matters the most to me is butter smooth gapless. Imho it went from "barely working" to "not bad but could be better": basically the first two transitions between songs after boot still get a bit gappy.
However once the playlist/album continues, everything's fine. I didn't picked up anything for a full Pink Floyd live album. So that's something.

I also noticed that the sort algorithm could be a bit better: When I scroll though my artists (I only use folder exploration btw), the order goes like this:
- Digital Whomp
- Dr.Dre
- DragonForce
- Danger

But it should be (imho):

- Danger
- Digital Whomp
- Dr.Dre
- DragonForce

The sort seems to only care about the first letter of the folders, but it should actually care about either all of them, or at least the first 2-3 for performance convenience.

Lastly, I want to heavily bump an issue that I'm still facing with the X5 III docked to the K5 Amp: the DAC function. Everything is already very well explained on FiiO's official forum here:
http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=42574&highlight=dac

This issue is quite frankly very infuriating to me because 1) the K5 and X5 III are marketed/sold as a perfect combo (https://puu.sh/y0BLQ/84813817a8.png & https://puu.sh/y0BOd/05c4dc3741.png). DAC functionality is a major daily usage of my X5 III and 2) god dammit they sound so good together!

So please, please, FiiO: please fix this issue.

I bet Dr.Dre is messing things up :p
