  Hi Fiio,
The balance control of the X5III has very little effect. When I pull the slider to R10 or L10 the sound only reduce a little on the opposite side (which suppose to be quiet). Is that normal?

Yep ,it is normal.

My amp has RCA and balanced inputs. No coax or USB. Will it still work? Or do I have to use a 3.5 to RCA cable from the headphone output?

Apologies, I thought that the need for this cable would be obvious. An amp doesn't have a digital input unless it is a DAC/amp combo so you would never use coaxial or USB to feed an amp.

If you provide some more information like what amp you're plugging in to it'll help others to help you. You would plug in to the line out, not the headphone out.

It's a Schiit Jotunheim, amp only.

Yeah, then get a 3.5mm to RCA stereo cable and plug in to the line-out, not the headphone out.

@fiio, what's the best way to connect this to my Schiit Jotunheim? It has RCA and balanced inputs.

You may connect the Line out of the X5 to its RCA input with a 3.5mm to RCA audio cable.

Can 2.5 TRRS to dual XLR cable like these could be used to connect to Schitt Jotunheim ?

Okay, perfect. Thanks!

In your opinion, is this better than the X7?

Better? That's up to the ear of the listener.

It's been ages since I've heard the X7 but I do remember some standout characteristics and differences. To me the X7 sounded flat (spatially, not tonally) and everything was brought forward, on the same plane in front of me, no real depth. This seemed great for being able to pick out details easily but I also found it somewhat unnatural and fatiguing. The X7 was also wiiiiiide.... holographic wide. The X5-3 has much better depth and although it doesn't sound as wide I find it to be more enjoyable because I really prefer depth and layering to width (unless the image is far too narrow).

Tonality wise the X5-3 seems a bit warmer / thicker than the X7. I can't recall the X7 well enough to give you more than that so take my comments regarding sound signature with a grain of salt here.

Functionality wise I vastly prefer the X5-3. Dual card slots, volume wheel, non-symmetrical buttons, no amp modules (I wasn't a fan of the amp module idea personally), and the smaller size are what I like over the X7. For the price I think the X5-3 is a great unit.

@dsrk:  Q4 stats, Apple 18.3%, Samsung 18.1% -- hardly 'ruling'.  But, really, the score is iOS 18.3%, Android 80.x% Other 0.x%.

iOS definitely not ruling.

Anyway, enough OT BS

I never said iOS ruling, I said Apple ruling premium market only because of iOS. iOS is that good and light.

All the iphones are flagships but not Samsung, they have so many in basic and mid range which dominate Samsung galaxy flagship sales. You should know that. Any way, enough of this off topic.

I am neither an iphone fan nor Samsung hater.

Let's enjoy X5 3.
