I have a feeling you will revisit the X5 III

True. Once Fiio have sorted the firmware out I'll likely jump on board again. For hardware/design/price/SQ its amazing. Couldn't waste any more time trying to get offline Spotify working but if I wait a couple of months all may be stable and can get one again with the 10% discount code this time (cheaper!!). Had to return within 14 days to get a full refund so did.

Mine arrived from AMP yesterday.

Updated FW with no probs. Wireless stable with no drop outs.

Loaded 2x128gb cards with 2-3000 FLAC tracks on each all ok (no embeded album art!). All tracks in a music folder on each card.

Added a few apps, Spotify, Mort Audio Player, PowerAmp beta. Downloaded approx 40gb from Spotify. Which is working correctly in offline mode. X5 switched On/Off and all tracks still present.

Battery at 70%, seems to not drain too quickly (unlike my power monster Nvidia Shield tablet). By time finished loading apps and general fiddling was down to 25%.

Charged to 100% in approx 1 1/2 using AUKEY PA-U28 (Qualcomm QC 1.2 certified) charger and supplied Fiio cable.

Now the sound, it a big improvement on my x1ii, most noticable is clarity of vocals. My hearing is not the best (work in an engineroom of a ship, v.loud) and was using Trinity Vyrus iems and AKG 550 headphones. Tracks used mainly 80s pop, ABC, Yazoo, Mission, New Order.

This morning have been in the garage trying to sought out the collimation on my Meade 10" sct and had the x5iii connected to KEF Muo Bluetooth speaker. Connection solid at few meters. Again clarity of vocals and bass just more defined. Tracks I was listening to was from (ahem!) Bloodhound Gang, Show Us Your Hits.

All good so far. Can't wait for my Trinity Master IEMs to arrive so I can try the balanced output.

Actually only problem so far is that the Hi-Res sticker on the front is at a jaunty angle . Nowhere near square!

And exactly why is messy?

Where to start, this will be off topic. I am not an Apple fan boy, but I love Fiio and I am crazy about X5 3. But, Android is never stable but people are blaming Fiio for that is really sad. Fiio is very good company who always try to improve. Their products and the quality they offer for the price is no short of excellence.

I love android for what it is and hate for how it is.

Wasn't aware Apple ruled the premium smartphone world. Premium Android phones are massively outselling iPhones.

Gone back to using my super stable Z5 compact/DFR Combo which sounds awesome, fast, stable, small & light (186g) plus in Stamina mode battery lasts forever.......... only one microSD though.    I did keep the excellent little Fiio BT remote.

I don't think so. May be basic and mid range but not premium.

But I hope you get back to X5 3 which I am crazy about like many other folks on this forum. That's why we all are checking this thread every day.

I totally second that, it's a shame that no other OS could be used for DAPs, i'd love a dedicated audio OS (based on linux)  to be developped especially for this kind of devices as Android is simply full of bugs and a very unstable OS.

I wasn't meaning the Z5 compact was premium, but it is great as a small source for external DAC. When I'm talking Premium Android against iPhone I'm mainly thinking Samsung S7 class which I use as my actual phone.

I'm still checking the thread everyday still too  !!

Does X5 III only supports QC2.0? So QC3.0 charger will not give any charging speed increase?

5py0n ,If the Max output power is the same , the charging speed is almost the the same.

You can add Tronsmart QC2.0 3P Wall Charger Model TS-WC3PC EU

It works flawlessly

A question, why such big output impedance in the balance out?

Oletros,

Thanks for your sharing .

The reason for the out impedance in the balance out : the impedance of the electronic switch

  @FiiO

I would like to have the option to choose the direction of the physical forward and reverse buttons.

In my case my most habitual action is to advance >> to the next song and, given the design of the X5iii, I consider more comfortable and ergonomic (and good for the thumb) that the forward button must be the closest to the volume wheel. It would be great to be able to choose that option via software switch.

Sorry , MacPac, the physical button>>   is only for choosing the next or last song.

So after stripping the album art from my songs, it seems all loaded fine! Man I love this thing. It actually pairs really welll with the Hifman HE-500s, and is actually powering them really well. (Granted, I don't listen to music all that loudly.) They also pair with the SIMGOT EN700 Bass really well too, and honestly really bring them out. Such a silky smooth sound from both sets!

Then we will agree to disagree, Android since 5.0 is very stable and there is no OS without bugs

Just happened to be there ... i think MusicBee did that to those tracks.

If they are lossless (aka flac), remove the album art using MP3Tag (best tagger for Windows). Then recompress because even though you've removed the album art, the space is still used.

Thanks a lot .. i will do that.. and yes they are mostly flac

there is no OS with as many bugs as Android have, whatever the version. It's structure itself is akward and it's even less optimized as windows can be (or macos).

A minimal linux distrib with realtime kernel and audio tools only would have been perfect for a DAP.
