I never said anything was easy or difficult. I just shared my thoughts on what I think might be the way FiiO implements the SE and BAL output. You're free to share yours.

OK, maybe I am the noob here. I have never seen a dac/amp/dap with 2 dac chips and both BL/SE outputs use only one dac chip for the SE output.

Maybe you have seen one.

I saw this question too many times.

I hope you realize it's an Android DAP, so it depends on the app you use. If Poweramp, it sure supports gapless play.

I think people are talking about the gapless in FiiO music App, it still take couple days and that is the reason we release it in China first.

  well, the thing is i read all the information in fiio facebook firsthand before i come to this thread, it only says they use AKM4490 dual dac and support balanced trrs, but no confirmation on same architecture for both output. judging from the paragraph it seems both of it utilize the dual dac but i just need confirmation from fiio's  side. I also cannot find any info about the output impedance for both output anywhere, unless i miss something.

 
 
1, the output impedance is less than 1 ohms in BL/SE.
 
 
2, the left/right channel are done by one 4490 , not difference between BL/SE.

You're right, and looking back I should not have made the 'prediction' without further information as it could be very misleading one way or the other. Really, I have no skin in the game with SE vs BAL.

Yeah, it was a noob move on my behalf and I guess I'm getting tired this evening. :redface:

BTW,  it is not like 9018/ 9018K2M, 9028/9028 PRO, 9038/9038PRO , the AKM4490EN has the same audio performance as AKM4490EQ . but the ES9018S is total different as ESS9018K2M.

Hello, would the Fiio X5 3rd gen function as a standalone DAC/Amp when connected to smartphones (Android and iOS both?) via the OTG cable? Also, would the DAP itself recognise a OTG pen drive?

Apart from that, and assuming you stand up to all the specifications as communicated, this might turn out to be the best 2016/2017 DAP (to date of course), ticking all the boxes!
Fire up the extra production chains!

James, Thank you very much for the information, really glad to hear that!, for now all my worries about technical is answered, i will sit back nicely and wait for the release date, i think this will be a great DAP.
