FiiO x Jade Audio JM21

Great reply! Thanks for that mate!👍

Who'd a thunk VERY IMPORTANT features would be hidden deep in basically developer controls. 🙄😄

I found the feature without anyone telling me. I simply browsed through the settings. Sometimes people are afraid or too lazy to use apps to get to know their features better.

I used PowerAmp a lot with a fiio usb Dac I had and downloaded it right away when I got the JM21. I had the same scratchy sounds. Under settings/audio/output I now have it set to use OpenSL ES Output (for wired headset)and the scratching sound is gone. The EQ is available and on, I think, by default. I ended up switching to the Neutron player, that I always wanted to try, for my files from the sd card.
PowerAmp is on there though and it works , I just think I'm getting more of a bit perfect sound with Neutron.
Anyway thought maybe you might find this info useful.

Good to know. 👍

I think I had left settings that I use on my phone (that have never been a problem).

I'll dig into it today and see if that corrects it.

Figured it was SOMEWHERE in sampling between the app and the device. (Being as it has its own DAC's.)

DID find the EQ, thanks to "FreeWheelin" although still not a fan being as the center frequencies are so widely spaced.

I'll take a look at Neutron. 👍

I had this problem once and then it stopped. I started charging the battery with the JM21 turned off and when it finishes charging (red light changes to blue), I turn on the screen and then remove the cable, because if I remove the cable with the screen off, the light flashes.

During normal use, I disabled the light so that there would be no interference from the LED on the sound.
Thanks for the input. May be a firmware issue that can be resolved later.

Just a thanks to those that replied earlier RE my problem with the JM21.

Changing the mode in PowerAmp fixed it right away. 👍

Have to say I spent some time with it yesterday & today, more specifically, been comparing the single ended vs balanced output.

Dug out a pair of KZ Krilla's that I bought over a year ago as a replacement for OEM ear buds for phone calls, and perhaps some casual listening based on so many positive reviews.

Never really expected much from them with a $20 prices tag. But again, based on so many reviews I figured they'd at least get some use while walking around in public places.

That said, I've just never felt they performed on par with all the positive reviews. That was UNTIL I tried them last night with the JM21, using the balanced output with medium gain.

All I can can say is wow! I mean WOW! I finally understand what the reviews are about. Spent 3 hours switching between low, medium, and high gain. Going through dozens of some of my favorite high bitrate mp3's & flac files.

Bass that you can feel was surprising to say the least, and never fatiguing. Of course they're still only $20 IEM's (with a Tripowin $20 cable) and won't ever be as revealing as higher priced, more feature filled models, but wowzaa!

Full disclosure, I'm a ChiFi guy. With that, I have several pairs of KZ's, and even their AZ20 Bluetooth ear hooks that I've used a TON the last couple years while spending hundreds of days at the hospital with my wife (a Leukemia patient).

I'd written off the Krilla's for music listening a long time ago, but thanks to the JM21's balanced output they'll be getting more use in the future.

Also had a similar experience with the KZ ZAR's today. I've always felt the ZAR's to be lacking tight tactile bass that some other models offer, (perhaps because of their open back). In fact, I've found cupping my hands over my ears helps in that regard. (Although I use ONLY foam tips on all my IEM's.)

That situation is now solved with the JM21 & balanced output.

Now I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks.... swapping cables and digging out old IEM's (and surely trying a few new ones) like it's Christmas day! 😉😀

Again, thanks for the help guys. 👍

The JM21 is my daily EDC. It's the source that goes everywhere with me, and is my top dog as far as TWS goes. It's the DAP that provides the most price to performance in terms of sonics and features. It's simply the monster of the sub $200 set. The Hiby R3 II a close second sonically (maybe even superior sonically?), but lacking the features, it's a very distant second there.

Got mine 3 days ago. Immediately updated to 1.05. Overnight drain is roughly 40% (5%/hr). Is this something that settles down after a week or so? Are there any settings I need to enable/disable?

Only app open is UAPP. Should I close that down at the end of the day?

Really love this thing otherwise but this kind of battery drain would be a dealbreaker.

Yes, this is something that stabilizes with longer use. I also use UAPP. I recommend that you always close any app after using it.

Bro, if you go back in this thread and others, you'll probably notice this is the most asked question from the first 24-48 hours of owning this thing. I'm guilty! I was one of the first to ask the question LOL But like @anli suggested, and I followed through on, once you do maybe 2-3 full drain and recharges, the battery starts to respond better. Also turn off the wifi/BT, and close your apps, and you get less drain and more life. Also, try not to be lazy or impatient, and turn the device off when you're not using it. It actually only takes about 20 seconds off your life while it loads from off to on. Leaving it on standby to watch the battery drain is a bit strange to me (unless it's an older device, like a Sony or Cowon -- good grief loading is SLOW), as you can just turn it off overnight, and when you want to use it, turn it back on, but to get back to the OG question, yes, after a few power charge cycles, the battery improves. This DAP is a BEAST of sonics and functionality and price to performance,

IMO being able to leave it on standby without fear of significant battery drain when not using is just a nice QOL perk that's present in every other similar device I've owned the last decade+, so it should be here as well. It's a solved problem in 2025. Any amount of needing to baby a device starts to hurt the user experience and the budget DAP market is ultra competitive, so no reason to accept it here. I just wanna pick up, use and enjoy, put down, and repeat until I need to charge it up. I certainly don't want to turn it off and on multiple times a day. I also find that it's a crapshoot whether UAPP will remember where it was after powerdown/up. If I'm halfway through an album or something it's nice to just pick up right where I left off rather than manually go through my library to get back to where I was before I powered down.

I do agree that it's a beast given it's price point. Haven't tried with IEMs. But powers my 650s and Argons easily, virtually no lag or delay loading album art at all scrolling through a near 1TB UAPP library, feels good in hand, etc. It's everything I wanted moving on from an aging, oversized v50. Nearly sprung for the DX180 but so far, glad I saved the cash to waste spend wisely on other audio goodies and went with the Fiio instead.

Can the LED indicator next to the power button be turned off?

I've been using the FiiO JM21 for about 3 months and today it consumes less than 1% per hour if I don't run any apps. Regarding turning off the DAP and continuing where you left off, the UAPP does this without any problems.
