[FiiO UTWS5] True Wireless Bluetooth Earhooks as Usual,Coupled with Independent AK4332 DAC
Sep 3, 2023 at 11:19 AM Post #2,416 of 2,559
I updated my UTWS5 to fw 1.74 to try the LDAC, occasionally crackles sound so I'm switching back to aptX.
Using samsung galaxy S20 plus

The most bothering problem is my UTWS5 keep connected / disconnected when the battery reach 85% (I turned the battery protection on). Didn't happen on fw 1.5

Any solutions? Or is it possible to roll back to fw 1.5?

Thanks in advance

@FiiO , please, explain.
What does "V.2.0" mean? I say about hardware version, it is written on the box, back side, above barcode. What are changes in comparison with initial version? Does it prevent dead/lost hook problem (and similar) I have met (along with many other users)?

Dear friend,

You may try to clear the pairing and reconnect again for check?
And yes, you could roll back to previous firmware if you like.

Best regards

I haven't try to clear pairing, will try later.
Thanks for the answer!

So overwriting older firmware is possible? Alright then thank you will do this if re pairing don't work

Today I installed the QCNFA765 chipset for LDAC 909/990Kbps on my PC.

After testing, it works perfectly.

If you have a motherboard/laptop with a non-CNVi M.2 E-key slot, you can buy it for less than $20 and install it easily.

Now if only the transparency mode issue is fixed, the UTWS5 is the perfect rig for me, @FiiO please fix it quickly.

These days I'm testing the samsung s23 in ldac mode and I think it is stuck on adaptive bitrate, I mean not only with utws5 but also with my other ldac equipment (i tested sony xm4 and shure aonic 50). Changing the bitrate under developer settings doesn't result in a music cutout, and that happens on every other phone I tried. And the audio quality doesn't change as well.
Plus I'm not getting any drop or crackling on 5+ hours of playback, like other forumers. I updated the phone the day I received it.
S23 eu version (SM-S911B/DS), firmware version S911BXXU3AWGJ/S911BOXM3AWHH/S911BXXU3AWHH/S911BXXU3AWGJ
Is anybody having the same experience?

Hello. After much listening and comparison, I came to the conclusion that LDAC is still not perfect and sounds worse than LHDC. Of course, I can't say for sure what the reason is, it seems to me that there is some phase distortion, in addition, much less low frequencies are heard through LDAC compared to LHDC. Could the engineers check this information?

One more question. Why can’t I set the maximum bitrate for LHDS, only 560? My source supports snapdragon sound, and runs at maximum speed without interruptions when using LDAC.

Dear friend,

The LHDC in UTWS5 support up to 560kbps. And we tested some other Bluetooth TWS headphone and failed to find one which support 990kbps currently.

It is known for sure that LHDC 990 supports Edifier neobuds pro.
Why can’t you just enable support for this bitrate? Or are there not enough computing resources?

Half of the messages in this topic are just complaints about LDAC not working @ 990 kbps, despite the fact that it's literally stated in the firmware release notes. And still we're getting "but it was working fine since 2016 on other devices".
I'm not saying that LHDC should be permanently capped at 560 kbps, on the contrary, it should be possible to just enable 900 kbps in FiiO Control app.
Oh, and btw, with root you can theoretically use 900 kbps regardless, but don't ask me how.

I don’t like to complain, especially since everything is clear with LDAC. I just bought a device with Snapdragon Sound. Now LDAС works super-stable on 990. Why shouldn’t LHСD work too? After all, the type of encoding itself has nothing to do with the data transfer speed.

Do you think that if you force LHDC bitrate 990 using root, the headphones will accept it and decode it? Why not? Man can even increase the SBС bitrate and get better sound.

Samsung has issue with Bluetooth ldac. You need to change to 990 then change to sbc, then change back to 990
