[FIIO SR11] Streaming Music Receiver

Oct 12, 2024 at 8:45 AM Post #121 of 345
@FiiO-Yellow @FiiO Roon announced the SR11 is Roon Ready, yet it still identifies as a M17. Are you releasing the new firmware for it? So it identifies correctly?
They wrote that the firmware will release soon:
"The SR11 has been certified by ROON and we will have new firmware out soon."

In short, no, they are two different products. The SR11 is released, but the SE15 is not released yet. If you look through Fiio s social media channels, you should see the SE15 still being teased.
I don't think Fiio ever said that your top picture was a teaser for the SR11?
I think the two makes great sense, a higher end streamer and a high value for money streamer.
Not really seeing any problems here?
"Not really seeing any problems here?" No, not a problem, unless you delayed a purchasing decision based on reasonable expectations, or went to the hi-fi show, at some expense, at least in part to see it, again based on those expectations.

However, the post was not a complaint, as such, but a request for some explanation as to what happened.

A quote from the blog from which the 'teaser' photo was obtained:

"Exciting innovations

In terms of innovations, FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. is presenting the FiiO K11 R2R, the FiiO FD5 and the FiiO SP5 desktop speakers. The new FiiO SR11 Streaming Music Receiver, an alternative to the versatile FiiO R7 and FiiO R9 desktop audio solutions in the classic form factor of conventional HiFi components, should also be particularly exciting."

Just one example of several articles announcing the SR11 and using the same photo, sometimes accompanied by a disclaimer stating it might not be exactly as illustrated, but certainly strongly suggesting it would be more like as depicted in the photo than is the actual SR11, which bears no resemblance: it definitely isn't in the classic form factor of conventional HiFi components, unlike the unit pictured.

I had not seen those, and understand your point regarding them 👍

I don't think anyone could expect a unit like the above in an entry range. It does look good though and I hope it may come to fruit at some stage at reasonable cost, perhaps a Wiim Ultra competitor?

The key word here is "like". No expectation of the SR11 being the same as pictured, since if you look closely at the knob, it bears "FiiO S15", not SR11, but it's not unreasonable to expect something similar. The Majority Fitzwilliam, purely as an example, is far more "like" the S15 pictured - with classic form factor of conventional HiFi components - than is the SR11 but costs little more. I bought one new for £65. It doesn't offer the same feature set, but it is comparable, including DAB/DAB+/FM/DLNA/Bluetooth/USB/AUX-IN/HPA/Internet-Radio/Spotify-Connect, etc. out-of-the-box ready. However, expectations were based on what was stated in the press release, not arbitrary speculation, and FiiO never issued a correction to this.

Did you realise it even says S15 on the unit in the picture 🤣IMG_0196.jpeg

If you follow the thread and read my post just before yours you might realise I wrote "..since if you look closely at the knob, it bears "FiiO S15" :face_palm:🥱🙄
I have much better things to be doing than be following your thread. I find the whole thing pretty ridiculous!

Let it go dude! The S11 isn’t the S15 🤣🤣🤣

It's not my thread. It's my post. If you have so much better things to do and find it so ridiculous, and have no constructive contribution, then why waste your time making inane comments?
Your are 100% right. I do really regret engaging with such stupidity! 🤣

And yet you started the stupidity and continue it, despite claiming to have better things to do, perhaps to cover your embarrassment at your initial glaring error.
I’m going to bow out of this mundane nonsense. No one wants to read it.

I will however leave you with a small piece of advice…

… one day FiiO may bring out an S17! Prepare for that day. I’m not sure how you’re going to cope! 🤣

When the SR11 was first introduced and due to be shown at the 2024 Munich High-end Hi-fi Show, the accompanying teaser photo was this:
1728573374381.png
The suggestion was it would effectively be a landscape version of the R7/9. We waited with enthusiastic anticipation, but AFAIK, it never appeared at the show.
