FiiO R7 All-In-One Desktop Android HiFi Music Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

Sorry, I should have been clearer - if the upgrades on the R9 are minor and you've already paid for the R7, then for less expenditure you could upgrade various components around it (ie rather than buying the R9). R7 can be all in one, or simply be the streaming device as the source in a system.

I suspect there are some real advantages to the R9 we don't know about yet, let's see!

Hi,

Well it all depends on the upgrades the R9 will offer.
But indeed, using the R7 as a streamer is possible even though I find that solution a little expensive...
I think a Raspberry Pi4 connected to a device like the Shanling H7 would do a much better system than the R7.
I have had the H7 at home for about 10 days. All I can say is it is a KILLER device as sound as sound goes.
But it lacks the streaming and "all-in-one" capabilities of the Fiio R7.

Right now, I am using the Shanling EH-3 : superb device that is more or less an all-in-one like the R7, but without the Android layer.
And with a hell of a headphone amplification. The ES9039Pro is also quite amazing at how mauch information it can squeeze out !

I would have liked to get more info on the R9... But weird enough it seems it has showed but without any technical info about DAC, Android version, renderer abilities, headphone amp power and stuff like that.

Will a Raspberry Pi4 play Apple Music hi-res?
Why not... there is a project where Android 13 runs on the Pi4 and the port to Android 14 is also already in work or running.

For me it is always very strange that free(time) developers manage to provide "old" hardware with a current Android and paid companies are not able to do so... but surely there are reasons that you just do not understand yourself.

@FiiO
I have here unfortunately further errors with the R7 see picture...

image_fiio.jpg

left RM3 not connected (e.g. after startup), right RM3 connected (even if nothing selected yet)

As soon as one accesses the R7 with the RM3, the GUI arrangement changes and does not go back to the initial state, only after restart.

I hope it comes again a firmware update which fixes some (old) open bugs (on post #731 there was unfortunately no reaction)?

With kind regards

I just purchased the R7 for the purpose of acting solely as a transport for my office system (MyTek Brooklyn Bridge Dac > Kinki Studio Integrated Amp > Bonickie W5SE speakers) . What attracted me to the R7 is that I can use all streaming services and especially Roon Arc, which permits me to stream my 4000 album collection from my Roon Core at home to my office system. As a result of using Roon Arc on the R7 in my office, I now have access to everything I also have at home instantly in the office. This is a great use of the android based R7 in my view; however, I am having a technical issue.

When I connected the R7 to the MyTek dac I needed to enable the beta driver for the R7 to feed the MyTek dac hi resolution files. Absent using the driver, everything streamed with Roon Arc for example was down sampled. That all worked fine with the driver, but seems to have created my technical issue.

I switch between Sirius XM, Qobuz, Roon Arc and other sources of music/programing during the day. I have determined that once I use Roon Arc as my source on the R7, the R7 essentially locks out the USB’s output for every other app/source. In other words, once I play music using Roon Arc (and Tidal), when I switch to Sirius XM, there is no sound, and the MyTek dac is not receiving a digital stream, but the Sirius app is running on the R7 and is working properly. The same thing happens when I play any other app after Roon Arc or Tidal (each of these apps ask for permission to use the external dac. If I grant permission, I get the locking out behavior. If I don’t grant permission, the R7 down samples all music from Roon Arc. If I play Sirius, then switch to Roon Arc, Roon Arc will play and properly if I grant permission, but then I cannot return to Sirius XM or any other app unless I power down the R7. Even closing Roon Arc doesn’t “unlock” and free the usb output from the control or either Roon Arc or the OS.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue. I did extensive testing and am sure Fiio can recreate it.

Dear friend,

The engineer asked that whether you enabled and used the USB Exclusive mode in FiiO Music app before the issue happens?

Best regards

II opened Fiio music one time but I don’t use it. I don’t recall whether I used usb exclusive mode. I don’t think so, but I might have tried it one time to see what would happen.
Dear friend,

You may check whether the issue happens if you don't enable the USB exclusive mode in FiiO Music app before using other apps.

Best regards

It still happens without enabling that mode.
Dear friend,

I still failed to reproduce the same issue. But the engineer are checking about that as well. And may I ask which version is your Roon ARC?

Best regards

I am using latest version of Roon Arc. Once Roon Arc plays music to an external dac connected by usb c, I can no longer play music to the external dac over usb c with any other streaming service. It is like the usb c port gets locked to the Roon Arc app.
