FiiO R7 All-In-One Desktop Android HiFi Music Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

Just unboxed the R7 and connect it as a desktop DAC on DC power replacing my DACMagic 200M
Silly question, but i cant seems to be able to power it off or shut it down?
I hold the power button, it just keep rebooting.
I went to the option/menu to shutdown, but it's also just rebooting itself.

The only way to shutdown is to pull the DC power out...

Overall a solid device, but Seems the sw needs lots of work here....

Isn’t there a power switch on the back?

It is pure digital volume control so don't worry about it .

Thanks @JamesFiiO!

I wonder if you or someone that's actually interacted with an R7 can answer another Roon related question. I have an M11Plus - which is a fantastic Roon player. With the FiiO Roon Ready DAPs (M11Plus/LTD, M17, M11S), you run the FiiO Roon app after booting in order to use the device as a Roon zone. Does the R7 power up into a Roon Ready state or does teh user need to launch the FiiO Roon app after each boot? If the user has to launch the app, does it reliably stay up and running without Android putting it to sleep or something like that? I'm interested in using the R7 as a Roon Zone endpoint - I'm hoping it just works without having to interact with it after, say, a power outage.

Thanks!

The power switcher on the back is only work for the AC input, and it is a bug that you can't turn off the DC power by the volume knob, we will fix it in the future by OTA.

You need to run the roon app each boot. and it will not go to sleep .

Thanks. I have a feature request for the addition of a setting which causes the FiiO Roon app to launch on boot. I would use it on my M11Pro but it would be even more helpful on the R7. The R7 will make a great pre-amp and will also be a great system with active bookshelf speakers - for Roon users, it would be great to not have to worry about getting it into a Roon ready state in order to use it. Thanks for considering this!

@FiiO, @FiiO Willson, and @JamesFiiO - I have a suggestion on one feature addition to improve the R9 over the R7 - add an I2S output port (over HDMI), so that the R9 can be an even better digital source than the R7 already is (since I2S is superior to both coaxial and optical digital connectors). Just a thought. :)

Some users did suggest us add this feature on our products, but there are not standard II2 connector and different brands are not compatible .

My R7 has been lost in the wonderful world of DHL.. Three days in a row of "your delivery could not be completed" with no explanation of what that means. Having it attempted tomorrow to one of their "delivery centers" instead (fingers crossed).

If I had known DHL was going to be involved I probably would have waited until it was available here in the States via a reputable delviery service.

@JamesFiiO do you know when the R7 will be added to the list of devices in the Fiio Control app? I've been trying to connect a phone to the R7 via Bluetooth to control playback but the Bluetooth won't pair successfully. It is perhaps it is because the Fiio Control app doesn't offer the R7 as a device yet?

I' m thinking between the R7 and the K9 for my Hifiman Edition XS and Dan Clark aeon. Will the "smaller" THX amp in the R7 be sufficient?

Both have same amp section and similar power output, in fact, the R7 has more power at low impedance . the difference is the DAC chip.

R7 is a DAP based on Anriod , so it will not listed in the FiiO control app, but we are developing a APP so you can control all the features on R7 .
