@FiiO can we buy the updated module separately to use with the previous revision of the Q5s?
Dear friend,

Thanks for your interest.

【Will the AM3D Type C module be sold individually?】
No. Currently, one AM3D Type C module is for one Q5s Type C in production. In the future, we will check out user demands and then take into consideration whether to sell the AM3D module separately.

Best regards

This is disappointing to hear. This was one of the selling points of the Q5S, that the amp was modular. Now you won't sell the new modules without the new Q5S?

Dear friend,

Since AM3D was launched, it has been loved and purchased by the majority of FiiO fans. After the launch of Q5s TC version, we received feedback from some consumers who hoped to order AM3D TC version. Therefore, we also collected the purchase demand of new and old users of x7/x7ii/q5/q5s on various platforms. But the AM3D's demand can not meet the minimum production requirements based on our survey feedback and the number of orders collected. So AM3D is unable to arrange for the production of new batches currently. Thank you for your support and attention to AM3D!

Best regards

And discontinued after all?
Are you going to release something similar? Portable amp w THX AAA and BT?
Because of the chip shortage, we do not have the Q5s in stock now. And we could not promise whether it will be produced again currently.
We are not going to make similar products like Mojo+Poly. You may check whether it could meet your need at that time.

Best regards

I'm definitely not purchasing from FiiO in the future, definitely feel burned by misleading marketing. Modular and upgradable don't mean anything if you don't provide new modules.
Sorry to hear about that. But actually, we have many modules for the Q5s. This modules could meet most users need already. Besides, it could take a long time to develop a new module. So we do not produce other newer modules.

Best regards

I do agree to an extent with the critique of offering modular capability and then not delivering; however, that is perhaps a little bit of a simplistic critique. First off, when a company says something is modular, that doesn't mean that there will be no time limit on the practice of providing modules, nor does it necessarily commit to how many modules will be offered.

The consumer has to use their own good judgment and take into account that the marketplace typically makes it difficult for companies to simply keep supporting a business plan such as providing new modules, or even maintaining an inventory of modules. Ideally yes the company is committed to maintaining a reasonable level of inventory for an appropriate time frame, but markets are competitive and dynamic and companies need to be able to pivot quickly to adapt or get left behind.

Anybody who has been following FiiO knows that they do tend to produce new devices fairly frequently and that they don't keep up support/upgrading their offerings for very long periods of time. Things change, and behind the scenes I would bet that FiiO has to invest their capital carefully so they can either tie up R&D and funds to support existing products for longer, or they can attempt to keep up with where the market is going, but probably not both. Or certainly not for very long anyway.

I get how disillusioned a consumer can feel, but we need to temper our expectations of FiiO as they have clearly demonstrated how they operate within the marketplace. When I buy a product I try to make sure that it satisfies my current needs and that realistically for a number of years forward it will provide me enough value and use such that when it is time to sell it or stop using I won't feel that it owes me anything.

Sometimes it is just simple. If you market it one way, you should actually follow through. That is, if you want repeat customers.

They created a new module and only offer on the ‘new’ Q5S, this isn’t about offering upgrades forever.

Everything else you stated is irrelevant. Don’t market what you don’t provide or you earn a bad reputation and customers like myself won’t be customers anymore.

That is one approach, and you're more than entitled to your opinion and to reward companies with your business as you see fit. Clearly there are enough people though who don't get too bent out of shape about it because FiiO is still around. I'm sure that they would prefer to keep you as a customer, but you can't please everyone right?

Your meta comments are one approach and you can choose to reply as you see fit. You are also welcome to your meta opinion. It’s fine that you disagree, but I haven’t been banned so I’m not too bent out of shape because I’m still around. I guess I can’t please everyone, right?

I'm confused. FiiO offered several modules AM1/AM2/AM3/AM5 and several sub models AM2a, multiple AM3 variants, etc. Yes, they are discontinued now along with the Q5 but nothing stays in production forever in the portable audio world.

I removed my reply as it was not helpful or warranted and amounted to attacking the person as opposed to the behaviour. I think your response was unwarranted and an overreaction as was my post that I just removed.
