FIIO Q15 DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

I got it today, unfortunately there's a big problem - when used via USB, I have to lower the volume via software on my source by 5-10db otherwise there's what sounds like very loud digital clipping (painful). It seems the Fiio can't take a digital signal thats more then -10db. It should be fine up to 0db like all other devices/dacs I have.

I tried it on IPhone (Apple music and Qobuz), Macbook (Apple music) and Android phone (Qobuz and UAPP) - the same behaviour can be observed.

This make the Fiio unusable via USB unfortunately. Bluetooth works fine.

I have the latest Firmware.

@FiiO is this firmware problem?

* I enabled/disabled EQ (although EQ doesn't seem to work via USB)
* Tried different filters and different gain settings
* I did a factory reset which worked for a minute, but as soon as enabled/disabled PEQ it started again

When I connect it via usb computer sees it as Q15 PEQ SDK which is weird. I have to factory reset it then it's seen as Q15 only. Some funny business going on firmware wise. i'm hoping its soft problem

From few reviews i've read online seems the Q15 sounds organic/analogue - which is a departure from Fiio's analytical and straight laced sound of before.. on the other hand Fiio typically don't infuse a specific sound coloration to their DAPs like Shanling do, from my experience they put the best components they can for the price but without doing lot of tuning, I assume in this instance they let the AKM dac do it's own thing which may be a more organic/analogue sound compared to before Sabre+THX which was more analytical/fast sound.

I look forward to comparing it against Sony WM1AM2 (which has a killer sound), Mojo 2 and desktop dacs (such as RME ADI2 fs ) - my expectations are quite high, with the quality DAC implementation expect it to be a giant slayer. I only wish I had more than 3 custom EQ settings - I have more than 3 headphones.

@FiiO for the line out functionality - is it true line out bypassing the headamps or is it going through them?

* I'm very pleased that Fiio seems to be standardising their DSP platform for these devices, with proper global EQ. I hope they release this DSP on all their future devices and continue the good work on it to refine (like getting more custom profiles, different PEQ filters) and other DSP goodies much like Qudelix. I'm disappointed not many are doing this in the headgame - Shanling, Cayin, Ifi - take note, you're already running late.
Yeah, we didn't pay much attention to PEQ before.

But we are now starting to do PEQs as well, and this is a piece that we are going to do very well, so stay tuned!

From what we can see in the diagram seems that the gain/amplification section can be bypassed maybe designed specifically for line out ? to be confirmed by @FiiO Willson ?
Yes, the line out is dedicated to one output signal, which is our usual practice.

Yes, it's a software problem.

PEQ we haven't officially opened yet, please don't operate PEQ, we expect to improve the function of PEQ within 1 month.

What is your software version?
we already have the latest software can be upgraded, I'll let customer service private message you the latest firmware

Hi guys I have the fiio fh9+Qudelix-5k I bought topping g5 in the hope of having an update after 20 days I returned the g5, how much better is the fiio q15 in % than topping g5? Qudelix-5k vs topping g5, g5 is slightly better by around 2% for a cost of €300.

Personnaly I use the fiio control panel that you have with the firmware package or with the Fiio control app on phone
@FiiO Willson except that I just made a try and on fiio control panel I'm on V1.59, but on Fiio control app i'm seeing as 0.36 seems to be a bug on fiio control app

This isn’t really good enough is it? I’ve just spent over £300 on a device that I cannot use either USB or Parametric on, and that the PEQ would not be fixed for another month!! Then I ask for the updated firmware which is clearly available as you’ve offered it to somebody else and I’m told I have to wait!

You say the firmware fixes “some problems”, can you clarify what is fixed and what is not?
