FIIO Q15 DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

To be honest, I was really looking forward to Q15, I even published news on my channel, I was thinking about buying it but... but as soon as it came out, I was disappointed...

I can't really comment on how it sounds until I hear it, the dac is great but I'm concerned it won't have the oomph and weight to drive my hd800s dynamically - it looks like a standard opamp based amp. For the $ price I think it should - can get class A amplification daps now from Hiby for that price (with sabre dac though)..

@FiiO can I use your linear power supply for this (pa50)? I have it already would be nice if it plays as a kit

I tried the Q7 and it couldn't beat my Shozy Pola from balance bcz it just didn't have enough power :D

Actually the Q15 also has 7 preset EQ's in it, and 3 custom PEQ, plus 6 filters that are fully adjustable to your favorite music!
May i suggest fiio remove the factory presets and allow for more custom EQ user presets - I bet you 99% no one will be using factory EQ presets for a costly audiophile device such as this. It's if RME Adi 2 came with "Dance" EQ that can't be removed, I can't imagine that

Yeah, the Q7 seems to be a real desktop amp replacement, but this is just a portable amp. It does seem a bit expensive for what you're getting...

I miss the days of the Q5 and its amp modules.

This is the problem I have now - q15 might not be a desktop replacement but has global EQ. Q7 is, but no global eq.

lol The Q7 is most definitely not a desktop amp replacement none of these are. they are limited by their I/O for starters .
Q15 seems to be the better option imo way better than the Q7 from a value standpoint. It should drive most common headphones , the thx amplification is way overrated speaking as someone who owns the K9 pro ess , it shouldn’t have any heating issues and most importantly has global PEQ. Speaking of amplification, I also own the K5 pro and the small KA5. My edition XS comes to life on the K9 pro ess as expected but what really surprised me is that the KA5 runs them at adequate volume levels. It wont murder my ears like the K9 pro can but its fine for normal listening levels. The Q15 is basically 5-6x more powerful and i have no doubt it has more than enough power for any iem user and most headphone users.
I am a big fan of Fiio's products and i have no doubt that the Q15 has good power and build quality. Where Fiio tends to mess up is in functionality, user experience, and practicality.... like building a stand with a fan to cool the Q7 that doesnt have any vents or adding some cheap spongy buttons on their $850 K9 pro and making a unit that wobbles or building drivers that crash in windows. things like that that make me hesitant about this unit but if they can get the global PEQ to work via usb on this unit and without any weird behavior then the Q15 has the potential to be an even better unit compared to the Q7 especially for desktop use.

Also the much smaller btr7 has thx amps. I hope the amps in the q15 do it justice - they're not mentioned anywhere which unlike the dac, I'm guessing someone isn't too proud to market them enthusiastically

Q15 143.5x71.75x21.75mm - no THX AAA
M11 Plus 136.6x75.7x17.6mm - YES THX AAA

:)
Yes,
We need to think more.
The DAC of Q15 is 2 chips, and the package are bigger; at this time, we can't use THX anymore, on one hand, the area of PCBA, on the other hand, the heat dissipation. Positioning, we can not use the BTR7 of this small power THX chip, you can see, BTR7 power than Q15 is much smaller!

The power of 1600mW, the heat dissipation requirements are relatively high, we also have to consider the volume of the entire product.

In short, it's a holistic consideration.
Besides, the current earphone configuration of Q15 is also very good, and the sound performance of Q15 is now well received in China.
If you need THX, then the Q7 is the way to go.

The Q15 has a customized PEQ that you can fully adjust yourself!
