FIIO OTG Support Thread

I emailed Integral's customer service if their SSD drive had a Phison chip, and they were happy to confirm this.

Manufacturer's responses to my inquiry on the chips in their 128gb Micro SD Cards:

PNY (P-SDUX128U1-GE)
The part you linked is for a micro SD card, the micro SD card does not have a USB controller,  it does have an SD controller however we do not provide which company provides the component as it is confidential information.

Samsung (MB-MP128DA/AM)
All of our products are made with proprietary controllers. We do not outsource any of our parts and cannot share the specific details of our controllers.

Lexar (LSDMI128BBNL633R):
Thank you for contacting Lexar Support. Unfortunately, the information you requested is proprietary and our Marketing Department will not release it. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Sandisk (SDSDQUAN-128G-G4A)
This card works on SD 2.0 and UHS-1 bus controllers not on the USB bus controllers. However, if you connect this card to a host using a USB card reader then the SD card would be read over the USB controller through the card reader. If you would use this card in the Micro SD card slot of FiiO X3 2nd gen then it will work for sure:

However, we cannot comment if you will be able to read it on your FiiO X3 2nd gen if connected through the USB card reader using the OTG cable.

The 3 Monoprice usb otg adapters I tried are:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=9724
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=11193
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=11194
They all worked well in my fiio x3 2nd gen while using the following cards and usb drives.

64 gb microsd
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0081EAK34#

32 gb microsd
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0081EAK34#

16 gb usb stick
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007YX9O9O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1432351264&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=16+gB+cruzer+glide&dpPl=1&dpID=41oz7wWRELL&ref=plSrch

I think I am going to go with the http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=11194
And purchase a 128 gb sandisk microsd or pny for $18 less (it is also reported to work). See below.

Decided to give this a shot
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JN1TOHM/ref=pd_aw_sim_147_1?refRID=134BYSFNHGE063RJSYKF
With the Monoprice OTG to usb above. Should work but I'll post later to confirm.

Has anyone tried the Meenova card reader with the X3II.  http://www.meenova.com/

It works with my droid phone and my Acer windows 8.1 tablet.

Thanks

For those who are looking for stable OTG micro sd card reader, i can confirm that first gen (not the one which is listed on website now) Meenova microsd card reader works without a problem on Fiio X3 2nd gen (Microsd card is Sandisk 128gb). First gen devices are not listed on Meenova store, but if you contact them, they give you special link for first gen purchase. They have limited stock as i understand.

Right, I saw that.  I'm asking about the ones listed on Meenova's website.  Can anyone confirm if those work with the X3II or even the X5?

Thanks

nmatheis may be able to assist. He previously stated:
I wish I'd contacted them before I purchased my 2nd Meenova! That thing isn't compatible with Fiio DAPs and drains the battery on my DX90 soooo fast blink.gif

I see.  I missed that comment when reading through the other thread.  Regardless, I have an OTG cable and the flash drives are cheap enough that are compatible.  I was hoping to just be able to use the same OTG setup for each device to avoid having to make various copies for each device.  I'm in the market for a new DAP with OTG capabilities due to my growing music collection (starting to buy FLAC over MP3).  I was looking at Ibasso, but reading through that thread is a nightmare IMO.  It's 50/50 whether you have good experience or bad and all of the FW upgrades.  I've got an X1, so that's pushing me to just upgrade to the X3, X5, or wait until the release of the X5II, but really want stable and reliable OTG capabilities.

At the moment I regard the otg implementation in the x3 gen two as much more stable than the x5 gen two. That may change over time . FIIO is aware of the x5 gen two issues with OTG but at this moment in time there is a real difference. So if this is a key feature for you then you have been advised that for now I would go with the x3 gen two for that feature

Hi all,

Been reading a lot of great info here at HF - thanks in advance!

Some background - I'm a long-time audio guy that's been through many floor-standing speakers and systems. Now I'm looking to get into portable hi-res audio with a nice DAP and a pair of headphones!

In particular, am interested in the X3 gen 2. My first question to the folks here - anybody use a portable HDD like the WD Passport Ultra or Seagate Backup Plus Slim to add storage to the Fiio?

I know the Seagate and the WD are both formatted for NTFS, and I read in the FAQ (http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=40042) that NTFS is supported. Hopefuly I won't need to re-format to exFAT!

Thanks again!

Joe
